"You need to create a character in the metaverse before you can play a Metaverse game"

Ok, so I've decided to try out some metaverse games. I've gone to http://metaverse.galciv2.com/ and made sure I've got some characters and I've made one of them the default. The problem is that whenever I choose Metaverse in game, I can login just fine, but then it tells me "You need to create a character in the metaverse before you can play a Metaverse game". Given that I've created two characters, I can't work out what I'm doing wrong here.

I've searched the wiki, google and the forums and I can't find the answer, so I'm resorting to a post here, aware of the fact I may be asking a much asked question.

And of course I find the answer after posting this. I've either got two accounts with the same username, one with a space and one without, or logging in without a space works but doesn't recognise characters...

In either case, you can change the username on your forum account by going to the My Account link at the top of the forum, then to the Stardock Account link on the following page.
