My friggin CD key doesn't work and tech support won't help me!

Well I bought GalCiv today at an EB and the install using the CD key on the jewel case went just fine.

I tried to log in to www.GalCiv.com to get the update and bonus content and the web site won't recognize my
CD key.

I called strategy first tech support and they told me that my CD key is unusual (i.e. contains a lower case "L") because the keys are supposed to be all upper case. They say they can't help me and referred me to this forum.

I've enter the CD key in every permutation I can think of and it won't work. Also, I've posted here and written emails to galciv.com and strategy first.

I'm frustrated and ready to return the game. Does this forum have tech support help or will I once again be told to contact some one else?

Jeff, drop me a note and I'll take a look at it ([email protected]).

Sorry Strategy First wasn't able to help you. :(

you could always take it back and exchange for a new copy. Most stores dont take back games that you dont like anymore but I cant think of any that wont EXCHANGE a defective one for the same title. Your problem sounds like it falls into the defective category.

That happened to me, too. Game installed ok w/cd key, but I can't get the patch. :(

Please email the serial to [email protected] and I'll compare it against the master list. All of these so far have turned out to be a font related issue.

Kinda ridiculous anyway, requiring a CD key to download a patch, even Microsoft's not that paranoid!

Guys.... something to keep in mind. You are talking lowercase L versus 1. Have you ever thought about using an upper case I (eye). I had a similar issue with the CD key and it happens that it was an upper case eye. Frogboy....question for you guys. Why for the life of us have CD keys coming out where the letters look that confusing? Most CD keys generated stay away from 1, l, I, and such exactly for the same reasons we're seeing in this thread.

Uh, Gray, you've never heard of Microsoft Product Activation?

Incidentally, a warez serial # floating around has been entered (and rejected) by over 4200 different people already. So yea, requriing a valid serial # is a big deal.

John, you'll need to contact Strategy First. I have already forwarded what you ran into to them. They made the CDs and printed the serial #s.
