Xion Gallery Launched at WinCustomize!

https://www.wincustomize.com/skins.aspx?libid=67

Today, in response to popular demand from the skinning community here at WinCustomize, we have launched a gallery dedicated to skinning the media player application, Xion!

Xion is a growing favorite in the customization world because of its incredibly simple skinning system.  Here's a bit from the Xion homepage about how skinning works:

Xion features a new standard in skin support. Baffled by script syntax? Pulling your hair out over slicing up skin elements? Crying over spilt milk?

Xion's approach to skinning will remove all scripting and slicing requirements that other skin systems have placed on users. Xion will directly read a .PSD file and using layer names, instantly create your skin.

Xion also supports direct loading from Zip files which allow you to package several .PSD files in the one package. This has the added benefit of being compressed and therefore consumes less disk space.

If you want to see samples of some of the work that is going to soon be added to this new gallery, check out this thread on our forums:

Special thanks to vStyler for the gallery icon set used on WinCustomize and applications like Stardock Central and the WinCustomize Browser.  And, while Xion accepts .PSD files straight as skins, here at WinCustomize you'll need to zip them up first before submitting them.

I'm looking forward to seeing what cool looking skins the community puts together for this!

A quick question, does Xion support skinning of the playlist, if not I think it'll end up a dead duck like Coolplayer.

WooHoo! I'll probably start working on a skin sometime in the next two years.

Don't think it does, but if your skinning it to match your WB \ suite the playlist is already natively skinned so it doesn't really matter. Also Coolplayer didn't skin by dropping a .psd in a folder did it? I don't know, never checked it out.

Xion actually supports .PSD, .ZIP, and its own format, .XSF.

It would be preferable if you could upload as .XSF as that way when you launch the .XSF and its not in the Xion directory, it will ask you if you want to install it.

.XSF is simply a .ZIP file, which has its extension changed to .XSF

I have tried using Xion but just seems to be using too much CPU, I cannot do anything else while I have it running. It shows 95-97% as opposed to winamp 12-15% and foobar 6-10%. Oh well, I'll just stick with winamp and foobar.

Id rather my music player be useable than skinnable.

Aren't they all...

That goes for all skinnables .... each has a renamed zip format ....

Dont know whats wrong with your pc buzz...I'm using Xion right now and I'm seeing less than 10% cpu usage.(and that includes some background processes)

*crawls out from under a rock*

Wow! This is a very impressive player from a skinner's standpoint. I just went through the tuts in a breeze and I'm having a blast making my own player skins. I'm not much of a skinner by nature but I gotta say this really does put the art (and fun) back into skinning.

My CPU froze up momentarily when I clicked 'choose skin' for the first time but it hasn't done that since. Everything's working fine for now.
