RCA Opal M4002 MP3 Player

I've been ripping CDs to load onto my new MP3 player. I wonder if MP3 player is the right term as it also does video and pictures? Ah well, anyway, it works great and sounds really good. The ear buds are silicon tipped so they fit nicely into the ear and have no slippage at all.

I only have 66 songs loaded into it so far, but I still have a number of CDs yet to rip. I'm storing all of the tunes on my laptop as well as into the player, that way I can either listen to them on my computer or take them with me as need be.

I do wish the thing came with some sort of carrying case. It's a bit awkward to just carry the thing and sticking in my pocket may lead to it being damaged. For now I am using a cell phone case. It fits into it ok, but it's not really quit right for it. I've been doing some searches but so far it doesn't look like anyone sells a case made for this unit.

Ah well, maybe I can knit one LOL

Does this one have Static Ram?  I guess with the density and cost of SRAM now, it makes better sense than small hard drives that the original (and some of the larger ones - capacity wise now have) had.

In any event, all these MP3 players really are, are dumbed down computers.  Simple OS to do a couple of things well.  Star Trek you are here!

Yep, it's far too small to contain any sort of drive, I'm sure it's just RAM storage. It's roughly the size of a cell phone but virtually flat. They are just very basic computers with an embedded OS.

Until now I hadn't really checked them out as I just didn't see a need to have one, but I have to admit it's pretty cool.

Yeah I'm thinking about it. I'll have to get the proper yarn for it though. I guess a trip to Hobby Lobby is in order

I picked up a leather iPod Nano case today as it's roughly the same size. I had to make a few alterations with scissors and knife to create the proper access points for the ear bud jack and controls, but it'll do for now. It hass a neck lanyard as well as a belt clip so it'll do the job until I can figure out how to knit and maybe felt one. I suppose it would make a decent first felting project if I can figure the proper size for it to allow for the shrinkage.
