Submitting "Unoriginal" work

Hi...

While I sort of know the answer to this, I was hoping to get some clarification.

I know that many submissions incorporate the work of others, fairly often it is only one or two other works that add to a person's original submission.  I, unfortunately, don't have a lot of skill in creating my own original concepts, but I have tweaked a number of skins to come up with a suite that might appeal to fans of the re-imagined Battlestar Galactica series.

To do this I have used the following:

Visual Style - StealthOS - Mike Bryant (unedited)
Icon Packages - Archon - Halluci (unedited)
DesktopX Theme - CMSDigitalRevenge - Chadmus (unedited, but some layout/function changes)
Boot Skins - BSG Logo - Pseudo Nym (unedited)
CursorXP - BlueProbe - Statustealth (unedited)
Logons - GT2 blue - Tiggz (edited to include BSG symbol)
Wallpapers - GT3_alt_1280x960 - Tiggz (edited to include BSG symbol)

So, should I send a message to all of the above creators?

Should I post a screen capture of the main desktop in this thread?

Any other suggestion that I might be overlooking?

Also, if it turns out that I can submit this suite, I'm not exactly sure if simply uploading my saved "DesktopX" theme will include all of the components, or whether I need to do some other type of upload.  I've checked out some of the tutorials, but haven't managed to figure that out for myself.

Any reply would be appreciated, and if this is extremely out of place or inappropriate on whatever level - feel free to delete/disregard this post.

Thanks!

Oops... I was trying to put this in an appropriate sub-forum, but it didn't seem to get there - please feel free to move this to the proper sub-forum.

Yes, you will need permission from all of them to upload their skins.

You would need to use ThemeManager to make a .suite with all skins included in it.

Thank you for the reply.

One further question (sorry)...

If some of the creators are no longer active here (I have no idea if this is the case with any of them) and I get no reply, does that automatically prohibit me from uploading the suite or is there a "waiting period" that can be observed to allow it to be submitted?

No reply means no permission so you can't upload it(only skins you get permission for can be uploaded). There is no "waiting period", permission is always needed to use others work.

I'd like to see a screenshot...I'm a big BSG fan myself. Curious though...you're not using any of the Cylon stuff? (WB by SKOriginals and cursor by Aroche).

Ima go out on a limb and agree with Bebs and say SK's Cylon skin just might look better than Stealth OS.

WB looks amazing - but a lot of the skinning on that looks obviously Cylon. I was going for a look like you might see on a computer screen in the BSGverse.

Since I don't know if I have permissions yet, I will simply put the desktop image in my profile - it should be there now - I don't want to post it here since so much of it is NOT my own work.

The cursors you mention are very good - and since I can't seem to message Statustealth at all, if I get permissions from everyone else, I'll just upload a suite resaved with the standard windows cursors - that other by Aroche would go well - but a blue/gray would be a better colour than the red.

To be clear... any 'mods' to skins require permission from the original author before upload.

Suites can only be uploaded by the original author - if you are not the original author you must use links to the downloads to create the suite, and not include any skins you have not created with the upload...
