My Calming Art

When Chris and I were browsing Barnes and Noble yesterday, I picked up a boxed set of Mandala pages.

In case you might not know what it is, Mandala is a type of pattern coloring art. It has a fancy name, but I guess you can see it as coloring for adults. It is supposed to be soothing to do, so being the ball of stress that I was ALL of last week, I thought it would be a nice way to unwind.

Here is one of my finished pieces:

After purchasing the box, it dawned on me that, duh, I could have just printed some Mandala pages for free online (there are so many of them)! Ah well...the set I bought was really nice, though, with eighty black and white pages to color, a set of color pencils, a sharpener, and a book discussing the calming powers of this activity.

I got so into doing a few of these last night, that Chris suggested I get more color pencils for them. So, I did...a 72 piece set...lol.

It is a cool little activity to do. You don't have to be an expert artist... just go with your moods on what color patterns you want to use.

I definitely recommend it to those who haven't tried it.

Rose~

I've had students do these sometimes, too, for fun. They like them, too, because they're a challenge!

We're entering our two "crazy" weeks for school. I may have to see what I can find. lol Glad you're a little more unwound.

Thanks, Poison. I "cheated" and used a bit of marker on this one, though...lol.

Hope you find them plenty to do! My students have four more days of school left...and they are ready to bolt out of here!

I actually had them do one of these today...kept them calm for about half an hour...lol.

I love the adult patterns that are available, but I'm often just as happy with a reasonably complex children's coloring book. I just get really fancy with the pictures, creating patterns and shading and using outrageous colors, like a checkered zebra or a plaid tree trunk. These look very soothing, I may have to pick some up.

I like doing coloring books once in a while, too. If you are interested, here is a link that has lots of mandalas and other patterns:

I wonder if coloring is a "chick" thing. I like to color too.
