Problems with ObjectDock Plus 1.9

Few issues here under XP SP2:

1) Windows Live Messenger: With ODP 1.5, the running icons for the main window (contact list) and conversation/chat windows were identified correctly by their executable. Right clicking a running icon for a chat window and choosing 'dock entry properties' showed the title of the window and allowed you to select an icon just for that type of window (in fact msmsgs.exe). Right clicking the running icon for the main window/contact list and choosing 'dock entry properties' showed the window as 'Windows Live Messenger' (in fact, msnmsgr.exe)

With ODP 1.9, all running windows are seen as 'msnmsgr.exe' and therefore cannot have separate icons associated with them.

This definitely seems to be something within ObjectDock.exe, since manually switching between them (replacing one with the other and then restarting ODP) causes the problem to appear (with the 1.9 executable) or disappear (with the 1.5 executable).

2) Windows Update icon in System Tray: With ODP 1.5, clicking on the WU yellow shield in ODP's system tray resulted in the WU dialog popping up. This is obviously how it should be.

With ODP 1.9, clicking the WU yellow shield icon in ODP's system tray just causes it to be removed, but no WU dialog pops up. After a few moments the yellow shields reappears again. Rinse and repeat.

3) A number of other 'system tray' icons which change icon image based on their state (e.g. enabled/disabled) now fail to reflect the change with 1.9. Again, these did change icon image state with 1.5.

I'm guessing the latter two issues have been introduced with the changes made to the way the system tray works in 1.9.

As for point 1...this seems a bit of a backward step in misidentification of an applications windows, which worked perfectly in 1.5

All fixes gratefully received, as I have now gone back to 1.5 because of these issues...

Thanks,

Mark

Just to clarify what I'm talking about in point 1 above, here are some screen grabs...

ODP 1.5 Live Messenger Dock Entry Properties

ODP 1.9 Live Messenger Dock Entry Properties

As you can see, in 1.5, not only did it detect the windows correctly, but we had the ability to set an image based on either the main application *or* the specific window. In ODP 1.9, it just sees all Live Messenger windows as msnmsgr.exe and there is no option (greyed out or otherwise) to select a specific image for the window.

As mentioned before, this is a backward step. I'm more than happy for new functionality to be added, but obviously not at the expense of losing old and useful functionality...

Hi mark343gs:

Sorry to say, that ability *was* indeed purposfully removed from this release. We're seeing what we can do to bring it back in the future in a simpler kind of way. Very sorry that a touch of functionality was lost for sake of "dumbbing things down", but the good news is we are hoping to find a smart way to bring it back. Worst case scenario, perhaps an option in the advanced options to get it back in its original form.

I liked the behavior of the messenger icons, so I for one would like a checkbox (or new solution that makes you happy) for that. Having the chat windows come up in the same icon as the main program window just looks silly on the dock. Thanks in advance.

PS Is this the ONLY (significant) program that has this behavior? I can't think of anything else where this makes a different. Maybe just special handling for messenger on its own?

Thanks for the reply and confirmation, Jeff. Seem to have missed that thread, so apologies for that. I definitely would like to see the functionality return, so vote placed.

Any input on the issues with the system tray? Naturally, this is more important fundamentally as it appears to be broken functionality, as opposed to a deliberate change in functionality.

Many thanks,

Mark

Since it appears to have been overlooked, can I just reiterate the fact that ODP 1.9's system tray is broken with regards to Windows Update.

I have now tested ODP 1.9 on three different XP SP2 systems and all display the same issue as described above...

Thanks,

Mark

I too would like to see this sort of functionality put in. I run java applications and if I open the Dock entry properties I see the application name as "Javaw". This is true even for the Eclipse application. Therefore all my java related applications show the same icon.

Also true when running the AS400 client access emulator. I connect to several different machines and have no way to change the icon for an individual emulator as they all have a title of "Pcsws"

Is there some way to use the application title (the one you see when hovering over an entry) to determine which icon to use?

BTW, I love 1.9. Well done
