The Fundamental Point

With palms together,
Good Morning All,
Last night we discussed Master Seung Sahn's chapter on the Six Paramitas. These are so close to me: Generosity, Precepts, Patience, Effort, Meditation, Wisdom. I see them as jewels, not precious, but jewels non-the-less. Why not precious? Preciousness leads to greed and this poison is very toxic.
We should not hold on to things so tightly that our fingers turn blue and our hearts don't beat.
An open heart requires a lose grip, doesn't it? We need flow, new energy, life, notions, ideas, people, activities, in our lives. Yet, to hold tightly to any one stops the flow and we are cut off, becoming stilted, and in the end, atrophy sets in and we wither away as useless shells of human beings.
This is Sahn's point: Just do. As bodhisattvas we are here to be in service to others.
The precepts and moral codes of our lives are guideposts, arrows pointing us in a direction. What is that direction? Doing good. What is doing good? Answer with your heart.
Be well.
