Start menu right pannel: No icons shown

I would like to try some skins in compact mode. However, there's one problem: I see no icons on the right side of the pannel, and since there is none, all that I get is is the incomplete text of each item.
Does anybody know how can I make icons appear on this side?

Open skin in SkinStudio, beside preview select XP Taskbar, in preview click on Places side of start menu, on right Section tab select content margins, you will need to play with left and right margins to get icons/text to display the way you want. Move them a bit, save changes then apply skin to see changes, it will take a few tries to get them they way you want.

Thanks, cavan1, but probably I didn't explain myself properly
My problem is not the size of the "Places" side, but the total absence of icons. For example, with my current skin, "Atmosphere", the icons appear on the left top of the Start menu. In other cases, on top of the "Places" side... and sometimes there are no icons at all.
Oh, I missed a point that probably is important. I'm running Windows Vista

One of these WWW Link If so they have no compact start, so you would have edited it.
The content margins are what controls how the icons/text are displayed not the sizes of Places panel. No icons tells me that the left margin has a negative value.

I am not running Vista so am having problems following what you are describing, maybe post some screenshots.

OK, here you have a screenshot with the start menu open. If you look at the right side of the menu, you wilkl see that no icons appear on this side. Just the first letters of the menu items.

Kinda like this, your uploaded screenshot is not very clear, hard to see start menu.



This is not a compact start but did this by playing with the content margins for places side of start menu in SkinStudio.

Yes, this could be quite similar.
In your pic, the icons for User, search, control panel and the like appear on the top left. I've never used XP, just jumped directly from 2000 to Vista, so I don't know how this was like before, but now it seems that icons won't appear on the right side.
Or is there a way?

I have been looking around and I am thinking Vista does not have icons on the places/right side of start menu, just the text.

That would explain it all.
It takes away much of the sense of compact skins, though
