Unfair battle against Dread Lords: undestroyable ships (warning - spoiler)

WARNING: campaign mini-spoiler

I have Dark Avatar updated to the last version: 1.59.078 .
I'm playing the campaign mission "Return of the Dread Lords" where I am fighting against
a Dread Lord battleship, which has a LOT of missile power an 58 hits points.
Fortunately, now I have enough firepower too. However, the battle doesn't seem to be fair to me:
1) When I fight the battleship with a stack of units (over 70 missile attack) I cannot bring the battleship hitpoints lower than 1. Even if the battleship had already only 1 hitpoint.
2) If the battleship has a few hitpoints and I send just one unit (~10 missile attack) against it, the battleship hitpoints go back to 58.

I can provide a savefile, if needed.

If two fleets mutually destroy each other, then the stats of the last remaining single ship on each side are compared, and the "tougher" one survives the battle with 1 HP. This is the reason for the behavior noted in 1).

The second point has been acknowledged as a bug relating to level-ups, IIRC.

In order to defeat the DL ship, you need to simply survive the fight without having your entire fleet destroyed. This is probably easiest to do by using strongly defended ships with a single weapon each (you only need to do 1 damage, after all), or simply by getting enough logistics ability that you can send a swarm of cheap tinies armed with pea-shooters at the DL ship. So long as you send one ship more than it has weapons emplacements, you should be able to take it down.

That's awesome. I never thought of that. Good thing the AI doesn't use that strategy against me, I LOVE to use the tie rule to keep my ships around forever.

In my opinion, the surviving ship should be decided based on the total HP at the start of the battle. 1HP invincible ships are stupid.

So this is not a bug but a feature... strange feature indeed... I guess that I'll have to live with that.

Strange bug... I hope that it will be fixed.

Thanks for your help.

Why should there be a survivor? Why the fleet can't mutually destroy each other? After all, the 2 opposing fleets are exchanging fire simulataneously.

If there must be a survivor when 2 fleets mutually destroy each other, why not choose the attacking side? Just to tip the scale in favor of the attacker when there is an equality
