Just made it in time

Just got in before the beta cutoff... played for about 1hr
My view.
I find that it doesnt feel like your in space - planets look great etc but take a look at X2 Reunion for how to do space with ships and get the feel right - i feel thats the direction you should take X2 reunion feels like the ships are in space but this looks like they are floating in a giant orange ice block   .
Diplomacy appears to be a non event .
Research is confusing in the beta IMO.
Maybe you should consider something like Galactic civ 2 planet management with icons on the surface.
I find the zoom sometimes doesnt work and ships can crash into asteroids for no ill effect .
But all in all i look forward to the final product - please consider the same style of space as X2 Reunion - this just doesnt feel like your ships are in space with an orange haze.

There is also a green haze and a black "real space" haze, lol... Those are the 3 colors I've so far encountered...

Gotta say, I like all the backgrounds, maybe not the orange one so much...

Ever have the glitch where you only see the black galaxy? I don't like it and I really thought that I would, its really hard to see your units.

Sorry i have to disagree
either they are in space or they are not.
I feel the biggest problem in the beta so far is the lack of feeling like you are actually dealing with space ships in space (because of the backgrounds ).
Sorry for saying this but at this stage X2 reunion creates a more realistic feel .
As i said, have a look at X2 Reuninon and see how Ironclad should do the backgrounds to create a space feel then decide if you like the disco back ground in beta 1.

well the one we have now, aint bad, but it feels abit lifeless.
I hope there will be an option for higher end machines though

None of these games have battles with 100+ ships and are not strategy games, they are single ship simulations.Strategy games need to be functional in use.

true, but there should be an option to turn some more demanding details on or off.

...those backgrounds are constructed along the same like. bright backgrounds so you can see things.

Obviously Ashbery76 you have never played X3 Reunion .( should have said thats the one ive got )
Which is also a stategy game with large amounts of ships on screen and giant space stations etc.Take a look at this site then tell me ironclad cant do much better with the feel .
My point being MY VIEW is as ive said unless they make the backgrounds feel more like your commanding ships in space then this game will be a big let down when released.
Ashberry76 got this link then post about a game you claim to know about
www.egosoft.com/games/x3/info_en.php

If you like i'll post some of my screen shots ive taken with multitudes of large ships and fighters in space and giant space stations and realistic planets - then compare the backgrounds !!!!!!

To put it simply Ironclad can do better others have ..

keep in mind, that this is still the first beta, ALOT can change until its release.
We just gotta keep telling them ideas

Im not worried at all, but give em time and we shall see

Very true
Cant wait for the final release - hopefully will be worth the wait .
But youve got to give Ironclad a big pat on the back for allowing prerelase buyers to beta test .
Its great to be able play a beta test and put forward potential probelms or suggestions - well done Ironclad.

I can appreciate the desire some have for realistic darker space backgrounds. It is a bit early in development to comment on this. Seeing that there is strong support for both 'fanastical' and 'hyperrealistic' the end game will likely have some combination of both or possibly choice involved The backgrounds will not be replicas of X3 or any other space game. They will stay true to the aesthetic of the SINS universe.
