Dock program for Windows

ObjectDock 1.6 nears release

https://www.wincustomize.com/articles.aspx?aid=149116

ObjectDock is a freeware program that lets Windows users add a dock to their desktop. It can display tasks and short-cuts on the dock as well as run mini-applets called (Docklets) (think Widgets/gadgets but better).

Stardock has put the first beta of ObjectDock 1.6 onto Stardock Central for users who have purchased ObjectDock Plus.  ObjectDock itself is freeware (the plus version adds multiple docks, system tray support, tabbed docks and some other features).

See the link below to get a preview of what's in ObjectDock 1.6.

I really *want* to use this but I can't lose my BandVWM. Please support virtual desktop switching in the next release? Perlease? OD+ really is a great product, but for me it's fatally flawed.

Nick - can you just exclude ObjectDock.exe in BandVWM?

I think I may not be explaining properly, sorry. I *love* BandVWM. That one product has convinced me to subscribe for, what, eight years or more now? I want to use OD+ but I don't want to run it at the same time as the Windows taskbar, but if I turn off my taskbar then sadly I also turn off my BandVWM...

What I would like is a VWM docklet for OD+. E.g. take the band, split it into separate desktops, including replicas, and represent them as components on the dock. That way I can still very quickly switch between desktops. Does that make sense?

There's not been an awful lot in Object Desktop for me recently (I'm not a Vista user as yet) but I will always continue to resubscribe because you guys have made my working life so much easier over the years, with that one simple program.

The weather docklet does not work for me. No matter what location I put it keeps saying NA. Location Not found. I tried my zip code, state, city and other zip codes and cities in California.

A bit buggy at this point in Vista...

1) Taskbar still rears its ugly head sometimes even when it is set to be hidden by OD+.

2) Severe slowdowns... mouse freezes, etc, while using ObjectDock, even when working in other applications. Was not having these before - on a dual core system with 2gb ram, ATI x850xt and Vista Premium. Should NEVER have slowdowns or freezes like I am having with this alpha.

I'm sure the problems will get ironed out, but until then... its not working well for me.

... and while 1.6 version will keep in beta, can we hope for a language update anyway ??

I can't find the beta in Stardock Central.

A bit buggy in Vista:

- In tabbed dock, some of the icons are inexplicably miniature (like 4x4 pixels, or something like that).

- In regular dock, it is not respecting system drive icons, as specified via IconPackager (Note that they appear properly in the Windows explorer). Even if you click on restore icon, it just gives a generic drive icon, but not the icons that are specified for C:\, E:\, F:\, etc.

Advice needed:
I love the dock, but the one thing that's a bit annoying about it is that it interferes with some programs when it's on top of those programs.

For example, I have my dock set up on the bottom of my screen to always be visible and always be on top. There are some applications that have menu options towards the bottom. Because the dock is in front of the application, there is no way to get to these application items I need to select. Is there a way (i.e. a keyboard shortcut) to temporarily hide the dock so I can quickly use my application that's behind the dock?

p.s. I have ObjectDock Plus. How do I download the beta program?

I wasn't aware of this software distribution program. Please excuse the newbie question.

Mouse freezing issues are so severe in the last couple of builds that I gave up and rolled back to a previous version. Now all is good again!

Rickbert, that issue was resolved in a very recent build....see the above link I provided....see thread # 4 in that post.

I love Object Dock + and all of the other StartDock programs -

The only reason I *dont* use ObjectDock/ObjectBar/DesktopX is that all configurations that allow you to Pop-Up a Folder Location - does not have the ability to 'Follow Folder-Shortcuts'

If this was added - I would be in heaven

OD+ is a really slick tool - I like the new Weather Docklet with Fly-out 5 day forecast - nice!

hrm.... a World Clock Docklet that could do a Flyout - - - interesting.
a EMail docket that could do a Flyout and show your the first N-Characters of text from incoming Mail -

Possibilites!

jaximflash: no, not currently any hotkey. But I am heavily considering adding on and adding a spot for it on the main screen. People playing games and whatnot often have requests to temporarilly turn off ObjectDock but don't want to unload it, etc. Hrm. What say the populus - good idea to add a hotkey to temporarilly hide/disable objectdock? I imagine the first time you hit the hotkey it would hide it, bring up a dialog saying you hid it and telling you how you can show it again with a checkbox to "never show this dialog again" kindof thing.

MySecret, I checked the link and read reply #4 (and the other replies) but didn't find anything related to mouse freezing. Perhaps I'm missing something? Anyway, I will continue loading new builds as they become available and rolling back only when necessary. Thanks!

Rickbert: so all is 'ok' with the mouse freezing issues with the v1.6 preview, am i reading correctly?

MySecret, as of build 1.58a(b).009 (4/3/2007) the mouse tends to periodically freeze, especially as menus are being displayed. (I'm running XP)
