Okay, my first modding questions.

1. Does anybody know if we can tweak the game to not use phase lanes, but instead have an open galaxy? There are many mods that really require an open system to be faithful.

2. IF an open galaxy is possible for mods, is there some way to limit jump ranges?

3. Will it be possible to shape shields so that they perfectly hug the ships hull?

4. Would it be possible to make planet/asteroid upgrades come with an automatic shield upgrade (without having those vulnerable shield generators in space)?

5. Will it be possible to make fighters/bombers that can operate independently from Carriers.

I've tried just about everything , I cannot seem to change the color of the KOL battlship's 4 beam weapons, and I hate the red color.... Any suggestions? I saw someone else was able to change the color, but they never told me how they did it In the Kol's ship file, there are 2 lines for Beam Color, but they are all ffffffff , and no matter what hex color I try to change it to, nothing happens.

I believe that either the Advent or Vasari (or both) have shields that look this way. It was explained in some post somewhere that the TEC have the most primitive shields thus they are just this big bubble around the ship. The more advanced races have better, more form-fitting shields.

Thanks Yarlen & Devs for opening up this forum

Would modding tools be necessary or will SoaSE be mod-able w/o those. ala light/heavy script editing to edit gameplay or adding graphical edits etc

(advanced tools will certainly be needed if one wants to design new model meshes for starships)

From what I've seen, you can actually mod quite a bit in notepad.   But to do more advanced stuff (or make things easier in general) the tools will be needed.

@Major Stress,

 

You seem to be one of the bigger modders around the threads from what I have been seeing.  Any advice as to who I would talk to, to be able to get a copy of the mesh for the asteroids?  On top of that, I have been seeing posts by you and others about the amount of polys this game throws around...  What values one should try to work with to work with this engine?

 

Either way, thank you for all the help you have already been due to the previous posts you have had here.

tallaaron76, the asteroid mesh (binary version) is in the mesh folder of your game,( the text version) is in  the reference files for your sins/entrenchment/rebellion version.

I actually tried to necro the threads from 2007, but for some reason I couldn't post in them...
