No, the game is not multiplayer. The metaverse is a sort of competitive high score board.

Dang... hmmm... anyone know if there are plans by Stardock to make it multiplayer? I used to play Masters of Orion multiplayer with some friends ages ago and that rocked.

Try reading this topic first.

The bottom line is, a multiplayer game is very different from one you play against the computer.

They said they MIGHT do multiplayer in a future expansion pack, but that's not guaranteed.

It was excellent. Frankly, I am extremely disappointed right abut now. I bought this game specifically to multi-play with my friend and it looks like yet again I've been ripped off my money. If a game like this does not have multi-player options, then it should have a clear warning on it. Since Best Buy does not accept returns on open merchandise, I am stuck with a couple coasters while Stardock gets an extra buck in their pocket.

Multiplayer is not a universal feature, and all those games that do have it specifically make mention of it on the box (even if it's just in the system requirements). I just bought a game this weekend and simply looked at the requirements to see if it had multiplayer or not.
