PC Freezes when Desktop X Loaded

Iv'e been using Desktop X now for 2 years without any problems till now.  Just recently Iv'e noticed that when I load one of my Themes my pc will freeze as the theme is loading...I have troubled shooted this problem and it only occurs when a theme is trying to load, there have been ocassions when the theme has loaded without fail, but after sometime once again my pc will freeze up...I am able to use my pc without any interuptions(freezeing) which is the normal way, no theme...

Does anybody have an idea to what may be causing this problem?

Any help would be greatly appreciated...Thanx

Are You loading very old themes ? They mostly contain plugins which can cause problems.

How would I check for problems with plugins? I dont think the theme I have is that old, possibly not older than 8 months since Iv'e had it...

not since you had it, since it was uploaded to the site

if you find it in the gallery it has an 'updated' date - that's how old it is.

I checked the folders within Desktop X/Themes, Plugins folder had nothing in it? Could this be why my pc freezes now and then, or would any theme just not work...If I am missing whatever plugins I need, where would I get them from...

I tried to download the same theme I already had from the gallery, but once again my pc freezes...I dont think its a theme issue now, I think it has something to do with Desktop X when it tries to launch any kind of theme...

are you behind a firewall/proxy? I have seen internet apps (weather etc) that HANG because the code doesnt know how to deal with the proxy server.

Im not behind a firewall and no proxy set...What is happening exactly is when I try to load the theme, after I double click the one I want, the theme will appear and thats it, pc will freeze at that point without the whole theme showing...Now im stuck using the basic setup which works fine, but I'd like to have my theme back...

Do you have any kind of anti-virus running? Kaspeski and others have a "script blocker" that will stop DX from running.

Can you run simple DX widgets?

Hey, simple widgets will run fine without any theme being used. I was using AVG but have now uninstalled it thinking that was the problem, but pc still freezes...Im at a total loss of what is causing this problem, im now thinking it has to do with something totally different. Im trouble shooting all possibilities to what is happening, system idle process is 99, did a disk defrag, registry cleaner, ect...Thanx for your help...

You might have some kind of trojan on your system....

Might be a good time to backup, punt, and blast everything, and start over.
Something i do about once a year, so i have a "Clean" install. Its a MAJOR pain (takes like 2 weeks to get EVERYTHING working, but its nice when its done).

Let us know what you find out.

Sometimes a widget will try to access the internet and will steal processes.

What widgets/gadgets/objects/themes are you running?

Im using the Sectional theme and have Gmail checker, thats all that on my theme. I started another post saying that desktop x cpu shows 0 cpu when u cntrl alt delete in process, so I end it and them im able to use my pc without any theme...Im at a loss why now its freezeing...

RomanDA, your idea is good which I have done b4, yeah its a pain in the a** but it worth it...The only thing tho is that my subscription to wincustomize has expired, so I dont think im able to reload what I will lose...

Archive everything then copy the archive folder to a disk.
Then all you have to do is install SDC then use it to restore the archives from the disk.

Corky_O has a tutorial on it on his Dreams Under Construction - WC site, but I can't get you a link to it from here.

I think I have pinpointed the exact prob to why everything is freezeing up. Gmail checker, when its running things freeze up, I closed Gmail checker and things seem to be fine, no freezes. Since I know the prob(I hope) is there a way for me to correct it, is it as simple removeing it and re-install it, can this be done as I dont have current subscription? Thanx again for the help Iv'e been getting from you guys...

which GMail checker? There's more than one available in the gallery.

OK done that, I guess its up to me if I want to reinstall Gmail checker to see if it works properly this time...Do u know anything about Kaspersky, im using that now and I seen a few replies above that it may effect scripting, if so, how would I fix that prob...Thanx again

Woodbridge has at least 3 gmail checkers - search 'woodbridge'

i don't use kaspersky, don't know if you can turn off script blocking like i could with norton - if you can, it should be in the options somewhere

Make things easier on yourself get another hdd and make an image, you can use a smaller hdd if you want so long as the data your copying to it does'nt exceed the smaller hdd's capacity,to copy 130gb to a 2ndry hdd it will take less than 1hr,then it's a matter of unplugging the power to the spare ready for an emergency, updating it is easy if you modify the boot.ini so you can dual boot every month or so

Kaspersky caused me no end of troubles with DX, so i ended up getting rid of it and using Avast. There was a lot of script blocking. Im sure there is a way to turn it off, i was able to turn it off.

As for the 2nd drive idea, i keep a CLONE of my laptop drive with me at all times.
I use TRUE IMAGE to clone. its great. When i reload the laptop i take the OLD drive and put it in the BAY drive holder, then the NEW drive in the internal slot.

Once the OS is loaded i can BOOT to either of these drives to see what i missed, or to get REG keys or Serial #'s i forgot. its a great way to check. Just wish i didnt load so much crap on the machine!
