Mega Events bug???

I have played a few metaverse games now and I have the latest version of DA (the 72 one I think). Anyway, I have checked for there to be no mega events at all during galaxy setup (or unchecked - basically not wanting any mega events), because I didn't want them potentionally unbalancing my games.

Anyway, a couple of years into my games I am getting messages such as "a wormhole has formed (showing a pic of a ship comming out of a worm hole - I don't know about you guys but I don't actually read hardly any of the text for anomolies, techs, etc.) bla bla and population has doubled" and other events like a boom in cultural influence and attacks of pirates. Are these mega events?? They sure seem like it and I swear I have them off when I play metaverse games.

What gives? I don't want mega events. Or are these minor events?? Has this happened to others? Does this only happen during metaverse games?

No, these are regular events and have been around since DL.

The Peace keepers are one. Any race that has ships not in their territory becomes the enemy of the peace keepers. Their ships are ussaully quite strong, and very capable at beating their enemies. They function much like pirates, as in having no homeworld.

The next is the pirate invasion. Their ships are quite powerful, and tend to show up with overwhelming numbers. They ussually destroy all ships on the map (ignoring minor races), and it often takes a while to clear them out. Some player use the oppertunity to invade planets, since planets rarely have any ships protecting them while there are swarms of pirate ships.

Then there the one that prevents all ships from exceeding a certain speed. I tend to get a max of 5 parsecs, but I'm not sure if other numbers can pop up.

Suffice to say, they are intended to make the game interesting.

Another one is the Spy Infiltration. All races will suddenly have spies planted all over their empires, attacking markets, factories and farms and virtually shutting down everyone's economies. You need clear them out with your own spies, but it takes quite a few.

Yet another is the Jagged Knife. A band of cutthroats take possesion of up to 10 planets for each race. They start out with pretty much all the techs of all the races, but don't have any ships right away. If yuou can act quickly you can retake those planets and gain some good techs in the process. I really don't like that one. It annoys me to no end to suddenly lose 10 planets I've been working hard to build up.
