Stardock released WindowBlinds 5.5 today.  WindowBlinds is a program that enables users to customize the look and feel of the graphical user interface of Microsoft Windows.  By applying "skins", WindowBlinds can change title bars, borders, push buttons, scroll bars, the taskbar, the Start menu and virtually every element of the Windows environment.  Thousands of different skins exist and can be created using a free program called SkinStudio.

WindowBlinds 5.5 is a major update in that it is the first program to allow users to change the look and feel of Windows Vista.  Thanks to a new technology called "SmartSkinning", WindowBlinds allows skins created for Windows XP to be used to skin Windows Vista.  WindowBlinds 5.5 then transforms the skin, on-the-fly, to conform to the new user interface conventions of Windows Vista to give it a distinctly Windows Vista look and feel.  Users of  .msstyles files on Windows XP can use SkinStudio to convert their favorite .msstyles to WindowBlinds 5.5 to run natively on Windows Vista.

For Windows Vista users, WindowBlinds 5.5 makes use of the new hardware accelerated Desktop Window Manager (DWM) to ensure the highest level of performance.   WindowBlinds 5.5 also skins the client controls of "non theme aware" programs on both Windows XP and Windows Vista so that users get a consistent look and feel across all their applications.

WindowBlinds has over 12 million downloads at CNET's Download.com and is, by far, the most popular desktop enhancement program of all time. It has also been licensed by companies looking to deliver their own branded looks to the desktop including Microsoft, Nintendo, ATI, nVidia, Ziff-Davis, Blizzard, and more.

My experience with WB and Vista haven't been good. I MAY try the final release but may wait until version 6 is out the door and not as a Beta!

How do you get that little shield icon on the shut down menu button? I assume it pops up a window warning you that windows is going to shut down.

Is this a windows feature or a windowblinds feature?

Here's a great new feature in WindowBlinds 5.5!!

If you don't like the option of having one choice in your animations window....how about six of them?? (shown as five, sixth one is off the screen)

I must be dreaming here...I've must have smacked my head on the floor...cuz I keep finding these things, ... didn't you guys used to have a small "preview" pic in this window as well? It's got to be me... my bad for missing all the staff meetings.

You see....I'm not trying to be a smart ass. I find things, report them...and get told off. Only person that hasn't yet to do this is Neil...and for that, I truly do hold him with utmost respect. But I fail to see how the Quality (didn't you just hire someone new? Fire them) department didn't catch something as simple as this?? This particular one has six options (all the same) whereas a few others are just duplicated.

If you're using WindowBlinds, some buttons or maybe all the Windows Dialogue buttons are changed by the skin you choose with WindowBlinds. I'm using my WindowsBlinds Vista skin and the standard button (which it activated if you press the enter button) is going from lightgreen to lightblue and back. This is because it is configurated within the WindowBlinds skin. You can configure this by going to "User Overrides" and on the right side under "XP Overrides" you put a mark near "Always use the XP taskbar defined in" and also a mark by "Always use the shellstyle defined in" You choose with both of these marks, which WindowBlinds skin you choose. Mine is setted to VistaXP-skin

fuck all y'all, stop whatever developing you are doing and fucking create a version of windowblinds for Vista 64 bit.. its screwed up.. us vista users that paid 300 extra dollars for Vista Ultimate can't use windowblinds b/c its not available for Vista 64 bit... its lame, stardock is lame, wincustomize is lame, and microsoft is lame for makin shit incompatible just so you pay MORE money outta the ying yang to do what you want... where do they think we have our money, up our asses or somethin? we aint rich like them

a build of wb for vista 64 is being tested in-house by stardock now. once it's stable, it will be released. don't get your bowels in an uproar. i want to use wb on ultimate 64, also. i'd rather be using a stable build, though.

First, thank you for your abusive language and outstanding directives toward our business strategy.  Nothing motivates programmers more than abusive, poorly written language.

As was the case with WB for XP, the 64bit version gets released later.  Due to the fact that our user base is a super majority of 32bit users, we typically get that version out first.

Object Desktop subscribers who have a current subscription get all updates and any new software (for Object Desktop) during that time.

ah cool, didn't know what to think from how Frogboy said Feb 1. I don't actually use the programs much cause they crash my system too often. I just wanted to make sure I was getting my dues, heh.
