The program requests disk in non-existent drive

When I launch GalCiv II, the intro movie is played, and then a dialog box appears with the message "There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive ." (i.e. without giving a drive letter). All the buttons "Cancel", "Retry", "Continue" just makes the same error message appear, forcing me to close GalCiv the hard way. This happens only after I have installed any of the updates. The debug.err file gives no error messages.

Anyone have any idea what's wrong?

Is the 'Start in' path in the shortcut's properties set to the same folder as the exe? You may also try browsing to the game's folder in explorer and running the game exe directly.

I tried both of those. The disk request does not appear until after the intro movie, which is shown when I run GalCiv2.exe, so the problem isn't caused by GC2Launch.exe.

I've been looking through the xml files and Regedit to see if there are any incorrect paths anywhere. So far with no luck.

Does your debug.err file (in the game exe's location) show anything? If so, please post it.

Never mind, I found the solution. It was an old path in prefs.ini that tagged along from an earlier configuration.

Cheers!
