To mod all you need is a text editor like Notepad. If you want to know how check out The Modding guide or the Tutorials on TBS Modder.

if i can slip a question in here

if you mod the custom planets does that mean that all custom ai's get the same planet

i would assume that the answer is yes

in the custom planets you can define the starsystems of all races and the one of the custom race. You can set the amount of planets, the sun, the names, etc.

The ordering in this file is the same as in the raceconfig, so when you change the first starsystem, you change it from the first race of the race config. I hope this can help you.

Presuming you mean in DA, I would like to add to Terraner's answer that in the CustomRaceXML of your race in the My Docs\My Games\GC2DarkAvatar directory, the "Homestar" tag co-incides with the "StarStystem Name" tag in CustomPlanets.xml .

So, in theory, if you change the Homestar tag then define that in a Modded CustomPlanets.xml, then load that mod, you should get a custom star system for a custom opponent.

thank you for the answer

and i have no idea what you just said macmatt

i just wanted to know that if i do nothing else but change the custom planets in the custom planet file

does that mean that all custom ai players get the same planets

As I said, in the custom planets you can change the starsystems of all Races, including the custom races.
As Macmatt just said, the homestar name in the customrace.xml is linked to the Starsystem name in the CustomPlanets.xml
so when you have i.e. "Veredian" as starsystem in the CustomRace.xml you should have a "Veredian" starsystem in the CustomPlanets, where the starsystem is more defined (planets...)

I hope this can help you.
