What app do you install first?

What application do you install first after every reformat. ( not including drivers, system files etc)??

Me.. TweakUI..   it has a handy setting for specifying the amount of window positions that XP remembers.

Ive always hated that stock XP starts forgetting where your open windows were after a few open \ closes.

This is an easy fix.

TweakUi also lets you specify what folders are listed in you "places bar" Does anyone really use the "recent documents folder? I dont, I like to set My places bar to contain folders i access frequently such as a current theme folder or Object Desktop folder..   just a couple of uses for TweakUI

I never noticed that before, but then again I don't need it. Enhanced File Dialog is WAY better at it and more customizable.

Autocad, it's drawing database, lisp routines, plotter configs, specialty fonts etc.etc.
MS Office (specifically Outlook and import my .pst file)
Opera/Firefox
Object Desktop (Windowblinds first, Right Click second)
Winamp, assorted plugins, dB Power Amp & The Godfather, then about 100gb of music files
then a bucketload of graphic programs and utilities.

Lastly Object Dock & it's library......can't configure it until all else is installed

to be fair I looked at the places bar function in Enhanced Dialog, What deters me from using it is it transforms your places bar button size to a narrow size as opposed to the larger squarer default.. If you use it as often as i do (500 times a day or more) its a lot easier to use\navigate with full size buttons..

I also didnt like the grid it seems to place between file\folder entries in the browse window.

The upside is.. you can fit more buttons in a smaller place.. however I never seem to need more than 4-5 which fit nicely at default size.

Perhaps Stardock can assign an option to specify button size in future versions.

You can make it use large icons. It's right there in the General > Places Sidebar options. As for the grid thing, that's just the default view type it uses. That can be switched (I always switch it to List).

thx for the info..fellow night owl.

edit. Actually before i reinstall it and check that out.. can the view be set to default to Thumbnail view and STAY in that view next time you browse to that folder?

THAT would be handy.

Once I've switched the view for a particular folder, it stays that way, so yes.

Super, I'll give it another go

Edit: Good call, Altho I'll still use Tweakui for several things, for the places bar this is indeed a better option. BTW.. you can turn the grid off too.

No question about it.
