Hi, you wouldn't have any rough idea when the Gold Edition becomes avaible in Finland?

Thanks in advance.

Nope. Just Walmart Canada.

Retail distribution plans for Europe are still in the works, with no solid details to report yet. If you don't mind having the game in English though, you can order direct right now. If you want a retail box and not just the download, international shipping is just USD$10 more.

Well I just picked up Galactic Civilizations 2: Gold Edition today from a retail store in Australia.

This has been on my wanted/must have list for quite some time, but I recall reading about the expansion only being available as a download purchase online, which made me hold off from purchasing GC2, so I was quite happy to read that that it is indeed available at retail and here I am posting with my shiny new boxed game.

While I can see the benefit in digital distribution, I am old school in that I like to have a physical copy, just in case the internet or something dies, at least I know I still have it here with me

I was quite a fan of Master of Orion, heck I even last played it a few months ago, but it's age is starting to show and from what I have read, GC2 is apparently the NEW MoO, which can only be a good thing.

Well I'm off to learn how to play the game now

The expansion itself is still only available on-line, but I guess at some point Stardock decided to release a boxed edition to stores that has both GalCiv2 and the expansion. I don't remember them saying that would be available way back when I preordered the expansion last summer.

Regardless, I preordered because a) I wanted to show my support by throwing cash at them early, and b) they said I could get a disc shipped to me (which they promptly did).

The only things it seems I missed out on is a bound manual (but I did print out the pdf and stick it in a binder), and I gather folks who bought the box got some kind of keyboard shortcut card. Ah well.

You can get that too for printing out yourself here.

Cool. I printed it out, but it is a bit tiny on a regular sized piece of paper, and a bit tricky to read the small white type against the black background. I imagine the actual box insert is a lot better. But it would probably be too much to ask that you make this, along with the bound manual, available for us "expansion pack only" people to buy.

I gather getting the manual is in the works though, so I can hope.

Sad thing is though that the manual no longer has those funny sci-fi quips hidden in it, such as "She blinded me with science!"

I would say that the new version of the manual has lost much of the character that the last one had (well, at least they're still continuing the running "This IS Ceti Alpha V!" joke, which has been in there since GalCiv I).

I also noticed some omissions that were in the original GalCiv2 manual, like explaining the focus buttons on the planet screens.

i printed on legal paper at work; it looks much nicer.

ps: i stopped by to say, BOO WALMART! in the U.S. or anywhere.

c'est la vie.

I just thought I'd mention that this week Circuit City (and their website) has Gal Civ II Gold on sale for $28 (and qualifies for free shipping). Still have Friday and Saturday to buy it, but ends after that, presumably.
