Gotta agree with y'all here... installed Vista on my work computer, then looked for a program to kill the shortcut arrow on the desktop shortcuts.

BIG MISTAKE, stupid app crashed the OS, and I gotta watch the system yo-yo b/w powering off and the loading screen for about 5 minutes.

Had to pop-in ERD commander, kill the reg keys & delete the files, then re-install the program, so I could uninstall (to delete any hidden files...).

Victoriously Inventive System Trounces Apple's

When we first got vista early last year it was really something to run at work and the boss's all said right then and there " We are switching over ASAP!" I was shocked and ready to run for a door. But there was no place to run. Then it finally happened in Nov 06 - when it came out for business's. God I thought I was gona die trying to just talk to people about the problems and all that. Did not work... so I got the very fine word from on high up... " You are going to school for this new OS and get all the info on it to find us a way to run it properly!" No not me - ya you!
So I spend weeks in Chicago doing just that and find out that everything we where learning about the New Vista OS was being rewritten as we where in the process of learning what was already ready. I was ready to get out of there! Finally it was over and then back to work I go and find out they bought all new terminals for every work station ... all Vista ready and so called ready to go!
I've seen Longhorn and servers that I thought would never be complete. Then we got 3 new Vista servers and Longhorn. Then they update everything to Vista. Longhorn and all... I wanted to scream. It was long nights till who knows you got to go home.
Finally we get everything up to date and all the servers are complete and running nicely.
I could say this tho - IT IS WORTH IT!!!
I've had less problems with the new Vista Business System and the Servers than anything I've ever worked with. We are now doing 10 times as much work than we did last year with all the problems from the XP OS and enviroments.
Thus I'm a total Vista person and have found that I'll be always running Vista due to the fact that I believe in what the future has to hold for us with Vista and whatever else they come up with [which they claim to be working on a new one as I write this]!!!

Give it time and you all will learn from your mistakes and study the true meaning of this new OS and find it is really worth it all.

Never a truer word spoken...yet Apple still has the hide to put out those insipid ads that say nothing definitive about its OS, only to denigrate another.

ya know SGT, I want to agree with you, I really do, but the whole purpose of making a new operating system is increased ease of use, and greater reliability.

When Vista hit the states, practically no hardware support was ready for it (the machines in my shop that had all ran like lightning on XP Pro, now were running in 256 color mode, since there were no drivers for our video cards), the coding was so off that trying to install existing versions of McAfee or Office crashed the OS, and we had to REFORMAT to get the OS working again.

There's no "ease of use", unless you think that having to throw out 90% of what you know about any prior Windows OS easy, to the point that most of our clients were sending their newer machines back to us to have Vista removed, so they could have XP put back on...

Vista's pretty... I'll give it that... but having end users tell us they had to SEARCH for the Print button's just bloody ridiculous.

I dunno, after the leaps and bounds of usability that Windows made from 3.1 to 95, and from 95 to 98, and from 98 to XP, I just thought I'd get more out of it, and not the hullabaloo of issues that it gave us...

The problem is a LOT of folks arent on brand new Vista ready business servers..hence the golbal reaction being so harsh.

Personally I'm positive in the near future it will be a better, more secure system but the re-designed UI is just horribly counter-intuitive IMO and inhibits the skinner's ability to do what he once could..a step backwards at best..at this time.

i will be upgrading to vista in the near future, just waiting and watching for reviews and problems to surface, as with all new operating systems there are bound to be a few issues. I dont blame microsoft for this as it is just a way of life. i will probably wait until service pack 1 for vista before i upgrade. if that is what it will be called anyway.
