The ship design feature in Galactic Civilizations doesn't just let players put weapons and engines and shields and what not on their ships.

It also lets them design what their ships will look like.  I must confess, even now, having played the game countless times, I still always design my ships with lots of extra flair to them and watch them battle it out. It's one of my favorite parts of the game even though it's largely cosmetic.

But I'm not alone. Lots of players with serious talent have been designing their own ships. Below is a link to a thread where players can show off their creations.  Here's a few examples of what people have made with GalCiv II.  The new Dark Avatar expansion pack adds hundreds of new components to use to design ships.

Good example of how giving fans more of what they want also, in turn, gives Stardock more of what IT wants: More Fans! By the way, these ships are stunning.

you may want to sticky this thread - i'm sure everyone's too busy playing to (eat sleep work study) upload images.

i've barely touched DA, and it sucks. work's been dante's inferno this week. i'm so happy it's friday and i can finally sit down and really play.

Im actually "paralyzed" by the new content in the ship builder, and havent been able to do much of anything. Theres just so much... so MANY new pieces in DA, its a bit overwhelming. It'll be a while before im familiar enough with all the new parts to really do anything very deliberate.

But thats a good thing!

Im so happy about 1 single component thats been added to DA it allows me to build moveable battlestations! anyway its no where near as good as some of the above but i like it:

NOooo!! After all my ranting against movable spacestations, you can just make them from parts!

But hey..

I can also make a VERY powerful battlestation for change..

the only problem is that they don't have an influence ring like stations do and when you see it flying round a planet it looks kind of wierd due to its size and shape and it moving faster than the moon.

That ship builder has me blown away. Ye Gads! The possibilities!
Ya can just spend days just in ship designs. That feature combined with rest makes this expansion worth while. I wonder if Kryo's Hull System Mod v1.8 works with this and the advanced shipyard?
