Catchy Headlines Hurt Search Engine Performance

I feel witty, oh so witty....

In a world where Google dominates the online landscape, and often a company's fortunes rise and fall along with their Google PageRank, it's no surprise that newspapers, often slow to catch up to the advance of technology, are finding that their favorite, catchy headlines, make it impossible for readers to find their stories through popular search engines.  The witty taglines that are interesting to read and chuckle at over your morning coffee don't perform well when users search by descriptive and straight-forward terms.

CNet News has a fairly good article examining how media outlets are starting to pick up on the science of Search Engine Optimization (or SEO) and are beginning to tailor their websites and articles to place higher when web surfers go googling.

This is pretty interesting Mike! Just recently I wrote an article on JU regarding which fared better, newsprint or On line news. I find that more people are reading on line news more readily than newsprint. But who would have thought that a witty, catchy headline wouldn't be easier to find!

Would this be the same for folks who blog too I wonder? Bloggers tend to write an article with a more catchy headline than anything else!

I'm getting sick of googling for info and just getting 15 different blogs saying the same thing , maybe its time for a blog tab on google so you can exclusively search for blogs if you want and leave the rest of us to google info from forums like the good old days
