Covert .shipclass to xml files?

I haven't played the game in a while and after upgrading to 1.4x I have noticed that all the ship designs are now saved in xml format. Is there any way I can convert my old ship designs from .shipclass to /xml?

You may be able to save them by the following process (no guarantees, but it worked in older versions immediately after the format change):

1) Go back to 1.0, start new game, build the ships you want to save.

2) Save your game, go back to 1.4, and load it.

3) *If* it successfully loads, upgrade and re-save the ship designs to get them in the new format.
