What I did today (Sunday, March 23, 2003)

When I woke up as normally I kissed my wife briefly and ran to the computer as usual to connect to the Galciv site and Forum.
I looked at my Object desktop (yes, also from SD), and Heeeee, only three more days to go! Probably even less, I bought Drengin and Brad mentioned they would release it earlier for betatesters as a test for the Server's bandwith (although I believe he also wants to reward hardcore Galciv lovers like me for their trust in the final success of Galciv
).
My wife came once more to look at what the hell I was doing again at the computer (she noticed for several weeks I only was busy at the main page of Galciv and the community forum, me reading and typing messages in the forum, several times screeming: WHY, o, WHY time goes so slow if you are waiting for one of the best things that can happen in your life?).
I showed her WHY I was so excited about Galciv, the community and everything around it. WHY I was so impatiently waiting for the Gold release. WHY I believe this game is absolutely the best ever 4x game developed, BETTER the first REAL 5X game, Xperience is indeed what buyers can expect.
She knows I love TB strategic games and told me she was already wondering WHY I didn't play my favorite computer chess game lately. I told her I played Galciv beta mostly because it is something like playing chess with 5 opponents at the same time. Can YOU imagine a greater challenge, IF YOU KNOW the AI can play at almost GODLIKE STRENGHT?
She asked me if I could spare a few minutes to eat my breakfast, and there I made a mistake. Because when I did, she took over control of the computer, read some forum items, included game 5 by Brad, and when I returned to the computer, she was actually playing a new beta galciv game. WOW, what a mistake I made. Now how to convince her it is absolutely vital for me to do whatever at the computer in het place? I didn't succeed to convince her, but HA, after two hours she had to go to the restroom, and THERE you go!
Not in the mood to having a fight (it's Sunday after all), I said to her SuperBrad himself allows installing copies on more than one machine, so why don't we buy one for you right away? Then we can both play at the same time!
NOW the new laptop is in our "computer" room, I hooked the P IV 2.2 GHerz on our ADSL connection and IF I wondered if this would be a good investment, I can tell you, YES, because for several hours both her and I played a new Galciv beta game.
And IF you know this is only a small Xperience in compare to what we can expect with the Gold and Bonuspack, I can certainly say I wonder who will take care of normal household matters in the next months. We already agreed with the neighbours to let them take the dog out, but who's going to cook and more of these rather unimportant daily tasks? The delivery service wil take care of our grocery, so we will not starb IF one of us is prepared to at least put the food in the Magnetron!
I wonder how the world will look like in a year or two, when we actually probably will look from our computer screens to the "real" world. Although it will be a very brief look, back to the (meta) universe quickly!
If you wonder where we live, it's Amsterdam, Netherlands. I WAS NOT PAID by Brad to publish this, just to make it very clear But perhaps he can promote me now, I'm already far too long "only" a CITIZEN LOL .
Although I think ordering and downloading the game online is very easy (that's partly because my internet connection is so good, I can also understand people who buy the boxed set. I have informed my local computer store about the game and they probably are going to import it. I mentioned briefly about the leaflet in the MOO3 box (they also imported the MOO3 game straight from the US and as probably everywhere it sells very well here (I have my own copy of MOO3, also, like Brad) and since this means a hugh crowd at least knows about the game, we can expect lots of sales. I know these guys from the start of their company in 1979, just before the ZX 80 was released. YES. I AM THAT OLD.
And finally: I made today also my own MP3 list to play in Galciv IF and WHEN I get bored by it's own background music WHICH IS REALLY GREAT and ABSOLUTELY NOT boring). What music? ALL 60's, because that reminds me of the time when the First Star Trek Series was launched.
