Desktop Icon launch won't work

Ok, if I load the the game in the cd rom drive it launches just fine, but from the desktop icon I get a galciv2lau.exe error and it won't load, it's annoying, I uninstalled, and reinstalled, and still the same thing. Any ideas?

While I can't say what the problem might be with the launcher from that alone, you can just skip the launcher and run the game itself  directly (galciv2.exe). All you need to do is edit the shortcut's target to that (right click it, pick Properties, and in the Target field, change the last part from GC2Launch.exe to galciv2.exe, leaving the rest of it the same).
