Looks like you're trying to run the game in a window at a resolution higher than your desktop.

Try editing My Documents\My Games\GalCiv2\prefs.ini in notepad, and change the line that says DisplayWidth=1280 to DisplayWidth=1024, then save and run the game.

Current Display Mode: 1024 x 768 (32 bit) (60Hz)

Debug Message: Game Resolution: 1280 x 768

You might try setting the games resolution to your desktop resolution of 1024x768.

If you can not access it through the Options button you can edit the Prefs.ini file directly using Notepad. It is located in the My Documents\My Games\GalCiv2 folder.

You can also simply delete the file, and GalCiv2 will recreate it using default settings (including a 1024x768 game resolution)the next time you start the game.

If you bought the game through Stardock directly and downloaded it, did you also download the extras like the multimedia and audio files? They are a separate part of the download, so you may not have gotten everything installed.

If you purchased the boxed cd that would not have been a problem, and perhaps that strange game resolution (which is more of a wide-screen res) is causing the buttons to not line up properly.
