Installation Error

Whenever the installation screen for GalCiv II comes up, I get this popup error after clicking the install bar:

"Error Installing GalCiv II:

Please Run Setup.exe from your CD."

I thought this might have had something to do with using my CD drive, so I used my DVD drive instead, and (though I don't know if this is involved with it) I got the same popup message, only a huge string of them. So what's going on with this?

And is it normal to get a popup from Mcafee VirusScan when I insert the disc?

The launcher uses vbscript, and unfortunately Mcafee treats *any* vbscript it sees as malicious, regardless whether it actually is or not.

The simple cure-all for installation disc problems is to grab Stardock Central from the downloads page on the site here, install it, log in with the same account you made for the forum here, and register your serial (you should have one 28 characters, no dashes, with only 0-9 and A-F in it) at tools menu->register products->pick Games on the left->pick GalCiv2 in the dropdown on the right. GC2 should then appear under a 'purchased products' heading in the main screen of SDC (when you've selected the games section on the left, that is). Just select it and click install to download the entire game, and you'll never need your discs again.

Alright, but are you saying the discs themselves are corrupted or what? Is there any way to correct this problem?

Possbly--that has been a problem with some of the production runs in the past, though in your case it doesn't sound quite the same. You may want to turn off Mcafee temporarily, then insert the disc and try to install again. If it still doesn't work, as I said the simplest thing is to just download the game via SDC.

Alright, so I tried downloading Stardock Central, and hey- I got an error message here too.

"Cannot copy sdcentral_gc2_setup[1]: Access is denied.

Make sure the disc is not full or write-protected and that the file is currently not in use."

Did this happen while trying to download the game, and if so, at what point in the download/install did the error occur and did SDC give any more info?

A possibly dumb question as well, but do you have sufficient free space on your C: drive?

Access is denied.

Perhaps another dumb thought. Do you have administrative rights on the pc?

I got that message right when Stardock Central finished downloading. Nope, no more info.

Yes, I do.

"Perhaps another dumb thought. Do you have administrative rights on the pc?"

Of course, but what would that really have to do with it?

Well if you did not have administrative rights on that computer, it could be set to where you cannot down load from the internet.

Fuels just was looking for another possible explanation.
