New to this DesktopX thingy. But like it!

Vanishing widgets

Hi all.
I am totally new to widgets and didn't even know they existed until a few days ago (I thought a widget was what's in the bottom of a can of Guinness to give it a head when it's poured into a glass)? However, I digress. I have a few widgets that I really like, my favourite being the Acer widget for shutting computers down (all my computers are Acer, so I would wouldnt I)? Is there a way of keeping a widget always on (or whatever its calld), so that whenever I reboot my computer, its there? At the moment, every time I reboot, a screen comes up and asks me do I want to run the widget and this is getting a tad boring, not to mention frustrating as well. I just want to boot my computer and there is my desktop, widgets and all. With no having to open them all the time. Thanks for any assistance in advance. Mike. Rochester, Kent, UK

What version of DTX are you using - trial, client, standard, pro?

Are you adding widgets? or are the widgets part of theme? what theme?

If adding, which widgets?

Trial I think (well, it said try it anyway and I have not paid anything just yet). No, they are seperate widgets and not part of any themes. The widgets I am only trying out as I am new to all this, are the ones that come with the trial DesktopX program when you downoad it and quite a few that I have tried and used from WinCustomize as I am a memeber. Is this any help and thank you very mcuh for replying. I thought nobody was going to help me? Cheers! Mick, UK

have you right clicked either the widget or systray icon > properties > checked "run at startup"?

Yes, the widgets that I use are all set to run automatically when Windows starts at boot etc. & they do but I have to click an open/run box for them to actually open & load. They don't load onto the desktop automatically on their own. Maybe thats the way they are supposed to be? Seems odd though that I have to open them every time I reboot or log off & on? Thanks for reply anyway. Mike.

What screen? A desktopX screen? An AV screen? A run/cancel screen?

This is usually not seen in widgets. Gadgets tend to make this happen. List the specific widgets that this occurs on.

Also check to make sure your Security suite isn't the program giving you the messages. Maybe an AV script stopper? If so, the only way to stop this would be to disable the script stopping via the Security settings.

I think its a DesktopX screen that I am using (I really don't know)? I am using Q's Mindwarp DX Wallpaper (the best) if thats any good? And the widgets I am using are only two. One, The AcerPowerCon.exe and two, on a clear day (clock).exe. These are the only two widgets I am using. I am sorry that I cannot be more helpful but as I said, I am totally new to all this and get a bit confused with all the things like what screen am I using? A Desktopx Screen, and AV screen, a run/cancel screen etc. Sorry again for being a bit thick. I just use a wallpaper and then have the two said widgets on it as thats all I want (at the moment). I am using Norton Internet Security 2006 as it came free with my BT Internet service if thats any good? Thank you.

Its OK now as I have sorted it and it was all my fault for not looking and checking correctly! Whenever the widgets loaded, the run/open box came up for every widget and I had to hit the run button. However, in my haste, I didnt notice that there was a check box at the bottom of the run box thats said always ask to run this program! I unchescked it and everything is fine now. And all because I wasnt paying attention! Both widgets now open perfectly every time without me having to hit run or open as that box doesnt exisit now. Thanks for all you help and how silly do I feel? Cheers for everything!
Mike.

Now it's time to master the finer points of widgets, desktops, themes et all. Guaranteed I will make one almighty great big cock-up of those as well? But hey, am I perfect? I don't think so and thanks again to you all for helping. Greatly apprectiated! I know where to come in future when I do (as I most certainly will) make a total balls-up of it all - again! LOL! Thank you so much. Mike, Rochester, Kent, UK
