well i have my nifty trerror star with the de-troller option. It's on autopilot to the moo3 forums.

at theED i can't take seriously because he's to much of a coward to show his real name when you try to get his info.

and it is sad that some of the moo3 fans have to come over here when a lot of us are/were such great fans of it.

but theb again small insiginificant liitle trolls luke TheEd have to pontificate to make up for their obvious shortcomings

It's really silly. I like GalCiv - and I was looking forward to MOO3 until the problems came out. I can't get enough of TB 4X space empire games myself. I've never understood the need to attack something to make me feel better about a choice I made.

One of the things i have liked about this forum is, most of the people who lurk here, including brad, are avid 4x gamers, who have, like grifman said, not had the need to bash other games to justify their choices, which is definitely refreshing.

We all know what's coming. let's not get defensive and start lashing out.

Let's keep it the way it is.

It would seem kind of limiting to restrict oneself to only a single game.

I'm over on the MOO forums regularly -- because I bought and play MOO 3.

It is difficult for me to understand why any strategy gamer would want *any* 4X game to fail.

I am pretty confident in GalCiv. That confidence comes from the fact that the game had nearly 900 beta testers who were able to publicly give their opinions without any restrictions whatsoever.

The game people will be getting on the 26th has been heavily tested and beat up by the beta testers.

I'm also feel good about how the reviews are going to go (well, there's one I'm concerned about but that's a different story).

GalCiv is what it is. It's a game about building an interstellar civilization. Sure, people who are fixated on tactical combat and ship design may want to pass on this title. But the game has never claimed to have those features and I don't think you'll see this forum have too many problems after release because the game really does what we say it does. And the things that it doesn't do (ala tactical combat) are well understood.

I think once people play it, they'll understand why there isn't tactical combat. It doesn't fit into this type of game. Some people just have a hard time imagining a space based strategy game that isn't MOO or MOO inspired.

The game play I describe here: http://www.galciv.com/play.html is really the kind of gameplay players can expect. Actually, it'll be better than that since the first 4 were done minus the BonusPak.

'If the version you're running is the latest Beta, you should keep in mind that it's about 4 months old. It lacks alot of the polish that would differentiate a "light" game from a "full" game.'

If I were asked then, I would have said the game was a 'full' game as early as beta2. From my point of view, we're already playing with v. 3.0 or so. :p

If this is only 1.0, I'm not sure I want to see what 2.0 is going to be line. I suspect I'll be wondering where all my free time is dissapearing to. LOL

I'm still trying to figure out how Mr. Ed typed that message.
Oops, wrong handle - never mind.

End transmission.

Kudos to Stardock for already producing enhancements to Galciv.

I have MOO3, and while it has the potential to be a good game, it is not a good game in its present form, and it is absurd for anyone to suggest that MOO3 was a finished, polished product at its release. It can scarcely be argued that there are not serious problems with the release version of MOO3--most importantly geranium-level AI, non-functional point defense weapons, an interface that maximizes the number of steps it takes to perform routine tasks, and useless documentation. I can't believe these issues were not raised by beta testers, since they are obvious to anyone.

I am not saying this to flame MOO3, but for a MOO3 fan to criticize Galciv as being unfinished because the bonus pack contains enhancements that were not put into the gold version is the pot calling the unicorn black.

I only have the beta 4 version of Galciv, and despite obvious omissions, from a gameplay standpoint it seems more complete than the gold version of MOO3.

"And yes, the BonusPak does have the pleasant side effect of discouraging piracy."

I don't think it discourages piracy so much as it ENcourages legitimate ownership of the game? If the game is as "complete" as you say, the lack of a bonus pack isn't going to discourage people from copying the game, but if they do and they enjoy it, they may then go ahead and buy it to get the extras?

I was just wondering, what size will the BonusPack be? Hopefully not too big for us poor 56k users:)

Thanks,

I just love the bonuspak!
The mp3 player is such a great idea, not because it is needed, but because it just makes things nicer. It just shows how much galciv is being programmed by people who play the games just like the rest of us; people who would have to find odd programs to macro keys in game so as to be able to skip a song in their mp3 player that is running in the background.
That alone is a masterpiece that makes me smile just thinking of it.

And I really detest the notion of add-ons that the companies make you pay for. It isn't quite a sequel, it's an expansion of sorts that you pay for. It always makes me feel like they didn't have time to put everything in the game they wanted to and then charge you for it. I'm not saying that is the case, just how it feels.
I remember Ultima VII long ago bothered me in that way. Not quite the same, but similar situation.

So, the delay in getting to play Galciv is kind of (:( but well worth it. And having this download off of day 1 is just beautiful. LOL

Keep up the great work.
