Its been a cold November in central Saskatchewan this year...at least for me that is. Lots of people I work with tell me that its really more like late December weather than November weather....but this is nothing yet they tell me, just wait. Sigh.
I've personally seen -12 F one morning here and more -0 F temperatures than I can count. Whats certain is that its as cold as I've ever experienced. Being born and raised south of the Mason Dixon line, its pretty much a given that its not this cold. The coldest Ive seen living in Arkansas was 16 F, and back in New Orleans, La, I can only remember as low as 22F. According to the Almanac, the coldest its been here in Saskatchewan is -71 F (no I'm not kidding), back February of 1893. So you can imagine I got pretty damn excited when I read the forecast high is supposed to be 24 F for today. Hearing that, I decided it was time to go out and check out the park in the snow and share with you some pictures. Besides, its only 18F right now.
So right of the bat, I can see that there is a pretty heavy frost around in addition to the foot of snow we have already. I believe the correct term is called "hoar frost" The frustrated deer hunters back in Arkansas will notice the deer tracks in the front yard (Gary are you listening??)

More frost covered trees. These look just like the trees back in the 2001 Arkansas ice storm.

Here's something I'm still finding it hard to do...walk out onto a frozen lake. Those of you from the south will understand. This is a picture taken looking back towards the shoreline.

Kathline took this picture of me in my normal cold weather gear. The silver coffee can has birdseed in it that I use to carry in the food for the Chickadees.
I suppose time will tell if December will be as cold as November was. So far so good. Now all I have to do is get through till Christmas!!
