Before, it may have been rejected, which would often force me to rethink it and try a different approach. Now, it feels like it's relegated to limbo.

Current Wincustomize.com thinking sees this approach as 'softer' than outright rejection through moderation as the work still is uploaded for public access.  This means that the more 'strange' works get an airing where before they would have been deemed too 'odd' aka unsuitable as walls....

Personally, I rarely cruise the 'personal galleries'. Did I miss it, or was a poll taken to see how many people actually browse those galleries for work?

Just seems kinda lost there. I understand the 'softer' approach thing, but perhaps another 'category' would have been the answer in this approach. It's kind of reminds me of some of the comments I see at DA about the 'Daily Deviations' and what makes it as featured, only a step down from that.

I understand a lot of people have questions/issues/problems with rejections...I have questioned one or two myself...but I almost would prefer rejection to pacification (for lack of a better word).

If it's 'approved' for the 'personal gallery' only, is it really approved? I could have just put it in my photo gallery.

That's a good question....I'm not sure that it is...but if not then perhaps it should be...

Currently I'm not personally dealing with Wall upload/mods...so I don't know....

Po' i've been dealing with the same thing lately...i have had @ least 3 or 4 walls lately goto my personal page only and i just usually delete them. whats the point if no one is going to see them? I did however leave a few on just to see what kind of response they might get. I am happy to report that one has received a whopping 8 downloads and the other 2...but hey i'm that much closer to a million downloads

I had a wall awhile back that i couldnt ' see ' either - the upload notification was the same as usual...said approved and gave a link.

I did mention this to zoombas in another thread. I had suggested that the WC personal site links be like DA and are added as a ' signature' when ever you post. He said maybe at a later date this could be done.

As for the wall that was delegated to WC personal site - I noticed it had about 8 d/loads in the first 2 days. Mostly people that have me on their watch lists. After the first 2 days...not one download for 2 weeks or so..I ended up deleting the wall.
Only because at that point if someone did click on my wc personal site it would show a wall that was up for a long period of time with 8 d/loads.

Which is why I would rather have had it rejected. Rejection is one thing, relegating it to the personal page is like saying to everyone "Look what wasn't good enough".

It's gotten more comments than any other work on my DA site, all positive and surprisingly so, as I knew it was 'odd' and may not be to everyones taste. (Kinda like me) and it was the positive response that helped me decide to upload it here as well.

I don't know. I realize they are trying to be accommodating and resolve a lot of the issues peeps have with the wall gallery and how it's handled. All in all, I like the site and don't have any serious issues. As with everything that is worth the time, you have to learn to take the good with the bad, or vice versa. I can live with this. There's more good here than things I have issues with.

I don't visit the personel pages for walls or other things. I feel if it doesn't make the library, then its not for me. Most of what makes the library I wouldn't download anyway, but that where I look. If you remember, the walls were takes from the mods and stardock started approving them because they felt we rejected to many, so now less get rejected. Oh well, six of one and a 1/2 dozen of another.

It's a balance to strike between posting everything to make everyone happy, and being too critical and offending a lot of people.

We felt the best option, especially with something so subjective (and touchy) as wallpapers was to accept anything that does not violate our submission rules, and anything that would have been previously rejected is instead placed as "Personal Page Only"  This is to try and avoid bruised egos and hurt feelings that we've often seen when someone has a work rejected.

We're trying to become more welcoming of new members, encourage more content being submitted, more artists frequenting the site etc.

has the rating of a wall that can be seen gone down to 3 instead of 4 stars?

I believe the non-sub threshold is still 4 stars

I know how you feel Po. I think I would have had my submitted walls rejeted outright than placed where no one can see them. I can only hope that someone sees my work and looks at my personal page to see what I have here.....

Like ~Fairy, to see that a wall only has 9 or 15 dl since being accepted makes me want to just delete them and not bother making more...

Sorry Zoomba.....I really don't want to offend you, but this is what happens when you try to make everyone happy....IMHO just doesn't work. Thats why there are rules.....I really hope that something can be done to fix this. I get a tad irked at the ratings... but the dl is what makes it worthwhile to me. Just knowing that someone likes what I post enough to dl it.

To each their own i guess. But teh few things I have made, I made for me and if someone gets something out of it . . great. If no one ever downloads a thing . . . still great.

All galleries were showing all ratings for the last 3 days. But the site has been jiggy so I assumed it was a fallout from them working on it.

Your not crazy skinnit...i had to look twice all weekend cos i kept thinking i was logged in and I hadn't...

We're not trying to make everyone happy with the change to wall moderation.  We're just trying to cut out the extremes a bit.  The problem ultimately comes in when someone submits what they consider to be their absolute artistic masterpiece, and it then gets rejected for some reason.  Wallpapers are the only queue moderated in part based on quality (in addition to technical and legal requirements) so people sometimes get VERY upset over it. 

We're trying to achieve two things going forward with WinCustomize:

1. Make it easy for people to find high-quality content for their PCs
2. Be more welcoming of new members and artists

We don't want it to be impossible for users to find high-quality wallpapers because they have to slog through dozens of one-button-terragen or MS Paint scribbles.  However, I feel there is still some value to letting people host their art on the site and make it available through their personal pages.  It gives them a public forum to post them, the opportunity for feedback, and the hope is that with some constructive criticism from the community, they'll eventually improve.  Not everyone here started out making stellar work.

Additionally, this policy of "Personal Page Only" is a way to deal more evenly with users of all levels of experience and time-in-community.  This is one step in making WC more welcoming, and hopefully start to debunk some of the more nasty nay-sayers out on other sites.

Hey Zoomba, it should be but rating filters seem to be broken, can see all, in all galleries, when not logged in. As an example, there is a bootskin released yesterday, rating has not been higher than 1 1/2 stars yet has over 1000 downloads, if filters working it would be doing good at 70 or 80 downloads.
I did email T-Man about it and ratings in general, moderation rating seems to be replaced by first user rating instead of being averaged.
