Moses reported the great flood and the ark that survived it in the Bible's book of Genesis. And ever since then, men have searched Mount Ararat for the remains of the craft. Ed Davis of Albuquerque was one of the few who, before his death in 2001 at age 98, claimed to have seen the ark.

In the book, Davis recounts his experiences in and near Hamadan, Iran, while serving with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1943. Davis was just one of five American servicemen who between 1942 and 1946 claimed to have seen the ark, either from the ground or from their planes. Mount Ararat rises from within the Turkish borders near Iran and Russia. Davis said he was shown artifacts from the ark and held them in his hands. The family of a man, who knew the location of the ark, took Davis to it.

Mountain climber, Don Shockey has himself scaled Mount Ararat three times--in 1984, 1989 and again in 1990. Thousands of people have looked at Shockey's own photographs of the mountain and what appears to be an object resting high on a northern slope. Shockey says this object is definitely Noah's Ark.

If proven, the finding of Noah's Ark would validate Christianity and set the world on its ear, Shockey said in an interview recently. Gilbert Grosvenor of National Geographic told Shockey it would be the single most important archaeological find in the world.

Though Shockey is retired from a long career as an optometrist, he is no anthropological amateur. Under the tutelage of Dr. Frank Hibben, renowned anthropology professor, Shockey graduated from the University of New Mexico in 1957 with a bachelor's degree in anthropology with a minor in biology and then went on to finish a degree in secondary education.

Shockey credits his belief in the ark's continued survival to its construction from gopher wood. There is no Hebrew word for gopher wood, said Shockey, but the Bible says it is the material from which the ark is constructed. Much like the process used to create modern-day laminates, gopher wood, Shockey said, was a composite material formed from strong wood and tree sap that hardened to steel strength.

The probings of Shockey and other ark hunters will likely stimulate thought, interest and discussion from now until the matter is finally proved one way or the other.

However, no one can dispute the geological facts that from the icy center of the mountains of Ararat, the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers are born. Between these two rivers Mesopotamia, the historical seat of civilization, took shape.

After the flood Noah came down off the mountain to re-establish life on earth and it was a fertile place that guaranteed humanity's success.

I just wanted to say that I really don't understand how finding a big boat would validate Christianity.

This title is misleading.  Nothing new has been "found" nor proven.  "Thousands of people have looked at Shockey's own photographs of the mountain and what appears to be an object resting high on a northern slope. Shockey says this object is definitely Noah's Ark."  That proves nothing.  It "appears" to be an object which a guy *claims* is "Noah's Ark".

I agree. Just because some guy says its Noah's Ark doesn't prove anything. Tons of people claimed they saw Elvis after he died. Does that mean he was resurrected?

this is funny. One of the world's oldest books states that there's a huge boat on Ararat; the boat made by God's own specifications. If its found of course the bible will be proven correct ergo: it's truth.

Get back to us once they actually find something. Found and think they found are very different things. I'm with Molly. I don't believe this one any more than spottings of Elvis, Loch Ness, Big Foot or little green men from outer space.

So does this "Arc" have a sign that says "SS Noah's Arc" or something?

I was out digging in my backyard the other day and I found some chunks of wood. Obviously this was the arc of the covenant.

noah's ark is more than just a story for the more than 200 eye witnesses who have given their time and money so as WE can give it a five minuite judgement.please do these people justice by being open minded, why on earth should this object be there.why is there a history of sightings going back for thousands of years.Ignorance was not bliss at the time when Noah entered the ark.Yet Jesus himself said in mathew 24 vs 37 ..that just as in the days of noah people would be equally ignorant now .......and sadly to say many of YOU are proving this to be the case

Draginol, why waste our time with such a nonsense post. I'm sure if the wood in your yard fit the bibles specifications and was also on the top of a hig mountain, it may be considered, but I have yet to see THAT happen....except recently on Ararat....hmmm amazing what an open mind does for a person.

On almost the same subject but more what Anne was asking - I had a friend who said scientists or archaelogists or someone found Armour in the line (like a straight line) at the bottom of the Red Sea - seemingly proving Moses's parting of it.....Does anyone actually know if this is true (the finding of the armour bit)

The red sea contains many very large reefs (northern part of the Gulf of Suez is where it is believed that Moses crossed). It is scientifically believed that Moses knew of a reef that was very close to the surface (that same reef is still there, but becomes deeper in the sea each year) and they would be able to cross it during low tide.  He led his flock across that that reef.  By the time they crosses (over 4 hours later) the tide would have started changing and nobody else would cross since they didn't know where the reef was.  Moses was actually a very observant person

But, no, I have never heard of any armour found in the red sea.  I am sure that you would find info about it all over the place if there was any discovery like that.

On the topic of the ark, I found this quote on the national geographic site: "On the one hand, I'm hopeful. On the other hand, I'm very skeptical" of the validity of the satellite images, said Rex Geissler, president of ArcImaging (Archaeological Imaging Research Consortium). "There is no publicly available picture that readily shows a man-made object that has any clarity whatsoever … Some of the photos are outright misrepresentations, non-scientific, and do not prove anything.

We wonder what is happening to our Nation, OH we of such little FAITH... It is truly sad how Faith has become a thing of the past... after all, if you don't see it then it's not real, right? Well, I don't have to see to believe... Belief is the thing that has kept this Nation going for so long and so strong... This site was posted for those who do believe, and who seek for truth... If you are one of the ones who do not believe, then that is your choice... because that was a GIFT given to all of us... CHOICE! Don't, however sit and knock down the site just because you don't believe... If it were talking of aliens, not many of you would say there is no scientific proof, would you? Like crop circles and UFO's... what scientific proof is there that states that this is truly an Alien Encounter? I think this site is very informative to those who do believe in the Bible and do believe in Christianity... To some who believe, this would be marked as a sign... and the postings I have seen today... another sign of times... It's amazing how we get crucified for being a Christian, taking God out of everything... including our Nation's Pledge of Allegiance... but yet as a Christian we have to deal with people who press their Athianism upon us... Don't you think that is a bit hipocritocal? Let's be real... after all, if we are wrong and there really isn't anything to believe in, what have we lost... but if we are right, look what we have gained...

Dora, there are more religions in the world besides Christianity.  Just because you don't believe in Christianity doesn't mean that you don't believe in God.

How does God and Aliens fit together?  As far as I know, there isn't proof of either.  Do you say that people should believe in aliens, too?  Not following your logic there.

The pledge of allegiance didn't originally have "under god" in it- it was added later.  So, people just want to take out what originally wasn't there.  Remember why America was founded to begin with?  A little thing called religious freedom.

People can be religious and look for scientific facts at the same time.  We can find dinosaur remains.  If the bible is true- we should be able to find remains of things that were talked about.  What is wrong with that?  Some people just don't want to have blind faith.  Some people want some proof.  I certainly won't believe in aliens until I see some proof, why should I believe in the bible without some proof.

And, believing in God and believing in the bible are not the same thing.

Well said Karma!  You can't go and state "Noah's Ark Found" without proof.  Go ahead and believe whatever you want but to state something as fact, you need proof.  I am quite certain that it would be all over every news venue everywhere if they could actually prove anything from the Bible.  Everyone wants to have answers.  Lots of people have answers, they just can't prove the validity.

True, JillUser.  Plus, if this was supposed to be just "religious" blind faith, it should be in the religion section, not in "current events".

OMG Elvis isn't really alive !!!

Goes off sobbing

Seriously though ...even if it is a boat aka Noahs Ark ( how would you know if his name wasn't on it) all that proves is Noah might be real

Maybe if someone really rich (or a bunch of church's) goes and makes there own comments about this and if they think it's true pay the Turkish government to dig this object up. They can keep it in the Turkish mussiem no matter if it is Noahs arc or not. If it is actually a huge ship with a bunch of stalls for animals , buiilt more than a thousand years ago it would be a giant discovery worth more than all it costs to dig it up. This would boost tourism in Turkey a thousand times fold which only brings more money to the Turkish government.

there are alians, they have found little critters on mars, living things. like water on mars, there needs to be things on mars for tere to be water. for there to be water there has to be mold. what creates mold? were did we come from? a peice of mold!

One thing i don't get is that the bible says that the world is only a few thousand years old. i can't get over that.....

Everybody take it easy! Has anyone heard about the the expedition that was supposed to take place between July-August 15 of this year? I can't find anything current about it. Even if I never saw it I would believe, but since there is supposed to be an expedition this year, and the expeditioners are 90 or so % sure they've found it, then I would like to see it. That is just too great to pass up, and I find any kind of archeology interesting. You've got to admit that seeing a boat that big and that old would be interesting even if God had nothing to do with it at all. Besides, seeing Noah's Ark might be good for this world. Some people have to be hit in the face with stuff before they get it, and then there are people who will never get it.

Reply to anonymous user from June 2 - I would go to Turkey and pay to see Noah's Ark if it were accessable in any way.
