Subscribers: Preview the New WinCustomize 2k7 Site!

Get in early, before the crowds

http://test.wincustomize.com/
You've talked about the features, seen the screenshots, voted on a poll or two and at long last we're in the final stretch with the new WinCustomize 2007 site redesign!  Now, in advance of switching over the site to the new system and layout we've been allowing select groups of users in to test the site and help find bugs and layout issues.  This is all in an effort to make sure the transition is as painless as possible for the community as a whole.  Now though, the time has come to open the site up to an even larger crowd!

Starting today, current WinCustomize subscribers can get an early look at the new WC2k7 site design!  If you're a current subscriber, and are logged into the site, just click here:

http://test.wincustomize.com/

If you're not logged in, or are not a subscriber, you'll ONLY be able to see the main news page, you will not be able to navigate the rest of the site.  Consider this a "teaser" for your non-subscribers.  We kept the really juicy stuff back behind the front page!

Once you're in, click around... explore... go nuts!  Some things have not been hooked into the new site yet, specifically user pages.  If you want to see how user pages will look under the new design, we've converted a few users over to the new system to use as examples:

Those user pages will only be viewable to subscribers during this preview period.

It's important to remember that the site is not final yet.  While we're very close, there may still be bugs that need identifying and working out.  If you find a bug on the site, make sure you take a screenshot, and write up a description noting what page you hit the error on, and anything you might have done that led to the error.  Also specify OS and browser version.  Bug reports should be emailed to [email protected]

This sneak-peak into the new site is one of the ways we're trying to say "Thank You" to all of you who help support WinCustomize through your subscription fees.  If you've been on the fence about subscribing, wondering what your fee gets you, I can't encourage you enough to head over to our subscription page and pick one up today.  It's cheap ($20), removes the advertisements, gives you your own photo-album and personal site, and it helps us keep this site alive and going day-to-day.  Plus, you get an early look at what our web devs are working on with WC2k7!

So if you're a subscriber, head on over to WinCustomize 2k7 now!  If you're not a subscriber, well, what are you waiting for?  Go subscribe!

Looking good! I haven't clicked around in there too much, but my initial reaction as a designer myself was positive. I like it, keep up the good work.

Is it too late to ask for an option to have the icons of programs and galleries next to the link to their respective gallery?

Looks great, loads faster...I do like knowing the total number of items in each gallery type on the home page frame menu, though.

Very nice. When does it go into full affect?

What I'm going to miss, when you go to the Newest page you can see the Newest Articles. Besides that looks awesome

Looks great, nicely done with some thought put into it. No one really likes change no matter what we say but this new layout should keep most everyone happy. One question, with you doing such a fine rework this time what will there be to look for in the future? Only kidding, keep up the good work.

Looks great. I find navigation to be improved over the current system. I do have a couple of other comments on items which are currently not available:

1) Inability to right-click on the "Download" button and choose, "Save target as". I don't like having files downloaded to my "Temp" folder nor not being able to see the file extension nor not being able to rename the file.

2) I miss the ability to search for a different category than the one you are viewing. For example, if I wanted to search for a WindowBlinds skin and CursorXP theme with the same name using the Search box without having to actually go to those respective Galleries. Perhaps it's there and I didn't see it?

I really like it. What an improvement!

The only thing I'm not crazy about is the menu and options bar is on the right side. I'll get used to it, but usually that stuff is on the left.

Still hate the newer poll. Why can't we have a poll that is active on screen like most sites. If you've answered it, then it simply shows the current results. We have to click to go to a separate screen and back. Though the list of past polls is a nice addition, I just very much dislike this poll system.

Someone mentioned the missing icons for the gallery list, I agree, it looks too plain without them there. Also helped to easily identify each one. I don't mind the total counts of skins missing as that doesn't really tell me much.

Until I went into settings to check my settings for how many skins to show per page, it didn't display correctly. The last row had two missing it for the 16 per page. Went into settings and didn't change anything, just hit update, and now displays correctly.

I actually like the right hand menu system, as it is against nearly every other site. I find it easier to use since my mouse is generally on that side of the screen.

I also agree there should be a general search for people to search in more than one library at once. Even SDC only has it for all or individually, not say being able to look in DesktopX and WB only.

A new look is always welcome as I can get tired of a site after awhile. Plus if subscribers can skin it I'm all for that.

My title says Citizen right above my username. I gather this will be sorted later..

Yeah....I kinda like the libraries listed on the left as well....since the site seems to stretch off to the right all the time. Hopefully that will not happen with the new site.

I really like it!! My only request would be to make the Next and Last page arrows different in some way so it's clear that they are actually different functions. As it stands you have to look at the tooltip to find out what each does, or assume that they do the same things as arrows on most paged datasets. Just a thought!

I really like it.

But with Vista going gold today......can we please have WB for vista?!?!?

It's Wb5.5 or 6. It works on vista. Been patiently waiting for it but I am getting very childish about it....want it now kind of thing
