Can someone tell me about Smart Drones?

After you research advanced computing, one of the starbase modules
your supposed to get is something called "Smart Drones". I've as yet
not found the type of starbase you need to build to use them. On the upgrade screen,
I never see this listed as a possible upgrade for any starbase I've built.

Anyone have any ideas?

From StarbaseModules.xml:

[StarbaseModule InternalName="SmartDrones"]
[Name]Smart Drones[/Name]
[Model]Starbase01[/Model]
[Tech_Requirement]Advanced Computing[/Tech_Requirement]
[Module_Requirement]MassScaling[/Module_Requirement]
[Description]Small helper bots assist with orbital production for our planets in this sector.[/Description]
[ModuleSize]1[/ModuleSize]
[StarbaseAbility]ProductionAssist[/StarbaseAbility]
[StarbaseAbilityValue]4[/StarbaseAbilityValue]
[Type]Economy[/Type]
[/StarbaseModule]

They are for econ bases, and increase starport production on planets within its sphere of influence.

Yes. Economy starbases. Smart drones add a manufacturing and research bonus of 4% to your colonies within its area of effect. The reason it may not show is that it is an upgrade to 1) Starbase Factory 2)Advanced Starbase Factories. If you have not yet built these on an economy starbase by adding modules, the option will not appear, nor will later ones like Orbital Replicators, etc. It is similar to when you add modules for defense. You can add Starbase Defense Mark IV if you have not first built I, II, and III. Certain starbase builds must be done in order and will not appear until you have built the prerequisite modules. BTW, Smart Drones, despite the sound of the name, has nothing to do with defense. It is factory and research related only for economic starbases only.

You cannot add Starbase Defenses Mark IV if you have not... IS WHAT I MEANT TO TYPE ABOVE. Sorry, I just saw that I missed that all important NOT which could cause confusion.
