Wasn't sure where to post this, but I have a question...

First, hi all

Ok, I'm trying to download a custom race pic and logo from the mods section (the xenomorph from alien) but when I download it I can't open it with anything, and it doesn't have an extension stating the file type. Is it supposed to be a zip file and I'm just doing something wrong? Or is it actually supposed to be like that and I just have to put it in the right folder? I'm actually not entirely sure which folder each file is supposed to go into either...help!

Sounds like your download might have gotten corrupted. When you click on the download button, does a dialog box pop up asking if you want to save or open the file?  You want to save it to your hard drive.  There are Portraits and Logos folders in the My Documents\My Games\GalCiv2 folder where you can put the custom race portraits and logos, respectively.

All mods are required to be in zip files and all portraits and logos should be png files, so the file you're trying to download should be a zip file with one or more png files.

Yes, a box comes up asking if I want to open or save the file. It seems to save to my computer fine, but not as a zip file. i'm using firefox, could that maybe be the problem?

Oh...turns out that was the problem, I just tried it in ie an it downloaded fine. Well thanks for helping:) But why would it matter which browser I was using?

It could.  Users occasionally report problems using the forum with firefox.

FirePhoenix9000 most of the mods in the library dont d/l correctly with Firefox. You have two options available to you to get them working..

1. Go to the download and alter the name by ensuring that .zip is at the end. This should rectify the d/l error.

2. Get IE tab for Firefox IE Tab

The library does not remove spaces from the names of the zips (it should, IMO). This causes some browsers to 'lose' everything after the first space when saving the file. Just rename it to a .zip and it'll be fine.

I've noticed this seems to happen to zip files made using Windows built-in Compression Utility.
