Feature Request: Improve Auto-Explore

It might be a small thing, but how auto-explore works really annoys me. It seems to be programmed so that the ships explore an area for a little while, then head across the length of the map for another area. Why isn't the setting programmed to find the nearest unexplored area, rather than the farthest? Also, left to themselves, all the ships will end up following exactly the same route. If the area they are headed for has been revealed, they should head for some other area.

I find it really frustrating to have to keep such a close eye on my auto-explorers, to make sure they are actually heading for useful, and different, areas of the map. This is one thing, minor but really irritating, that I would like changed.

It would be great if a group of auto-explorers would pick different spread-out areas to explore, to prevent the scoutship conga line effect.

Yea, they are pretty retarded that way. Once I get Eyes of the Universe, I delete all my scouts except one. With Eyes of the Universe, one scout loaded with engines can auto-explore a whole gigantic map in a hundred turns or so. There's no need to have a bunch of them do the same thing in a conga line. But, it would be better if you *could* have several of them exploring different areas at the same time. Before I get Eyes of the Universe, I'll somtimes sent them off in different directions when they start piling up. Works for a little while at least.

I usually don't bother until I'm well past the colony rush. Once I've got Sensors III, Warp Drive II or III, and Advanced Life Support, I'll do up a Small hulled ship with two engines, a trio of life support and the rest in sensors, and turn them loose.

The trick is, you can't just launch and hit W, gotta send them to the far corners of their range limit, THEN hit W and let them work their way back. Kinda Voyager-like.

it'd be nice if the flagship also defaulted to examine anomalies right away as well. it can be kind of bothersome to have to follow that damn thing around.

Set it to Auto-Survey, not Auto-Explore. Auto-Survey will send any ship with a survey module, including your flagship, directly to anomalies. It'll even give you a pop up when they're all gone.
