Issue with overwriting old ship designs.

I use a number of stripped down hull designs with generic monikers that I will outfit in games as my tech progresses. What is happening, is that at the end of a game, I've got all these designs with endgame tech that I try overwriting in a new game, so when I start a new game, I go back to the generic hull and create a new low tech version for the current campaign.

The problem is, as an example, if I create a new low tech Huge hull ship and give it the same name as the ship from the old campaign, in this case "Devastator", the Shipyard will give me the pop up asking to replace the old design (they call it "upgrade", but essentially its a downgrade) and I say yes, and it saves the new ship. Then when I look at the ship list in the menu, its got the old appearance of having the advanced technology components, even though its got the current stats. And if I modify the appearance with extras during the outfitting process, they're removed. Taking this messed up design into the editor, the current components are shown as there, but are invisible, and the old components have no stats, but appear there anyway, and are on the list of the active components. I tried going back and deleting the old design from a save game, then creating a new version of the ship with the same name through the current game, and the same issue popped up.

As a workaround, is there a file I can go in and edit to manually delete the old ship designs from the game?

I'm having this problem both with Metaverse and regular games.

Hmm, I haven't encountered any issue like this myself. If you do want to just nuke them all though, you can just go to My Documents\My Games\GalCiv2\ships and delete all the files there.

That's happened to me. Not always, but sometimes.

I didn't try building it to see what happens, but I once built a ship called Star Raider and got a pirate Star Raider instead of my own design.

Yep, that happens to me quite often also. It does get annoying.

If you're playing a metaverse game, erase the ships from My Documents\My Games\GalCiv2\MetaverseData\ships also.

Cool beans, thanks.

Of course, that means I lose my templates, too... *sigh*

No wait, there's a way to deal with that. Just got to make a fresh version with just the templates, then archive them somewhere until I start a new game and copy them in. All good.
