double click of save game defaults to load

I searched the posts, couldn't find this.. sorry if its a duplicate.

I haven't played Galactic Civ2 for months. Why? Last time I played for 20 minutes, thought I'd better save it, hit escape, clicked load/save and double clicked on the save game I wanted to overwrite. No warnings. There goes 20 minutes of play because double click means load.

Why does the load/save screen have an action for double click? Its doing 2 totally opposite functions, whose to say which is the 'default'? If the same screen is meant to do both functions, having double click 'load' the game is really poor usability.

I thought I'd have a play again today. Atleast this time I only played for 10 minutes before double clicking on the save game I wanted to overwrite and having the game load it instead of overwriting it. Thats when I remembered why I hadn't played it for a while. The habit is just too strongly imprinted on my mind. Every game I've got, I click save, double click on a save game, click yes to overwrite. Done. I can't even think of another game that puts load/save on the screen.

Any chance you can drop the double click handler and make the user click save or load explicitly? Or since save has the 'overwrite' warning, give load an 'are you sure' warning too. It would even be safer to make double click default to save since at least then you'd get the overwrite warning and can continue or realise you meant to load and click cancel.

Cheers

I understand that this must be fairly annoying for you, but I'm afraid that I cannot help but do anything other than chuckle slightly at your expense. Sorry.

On the upside, hopefully my post will increase the chances of a dev seing this, and maybe implementing what seems to be a perfectly sensible and reasonable request.

I guess somebody forgot to change that functionality after copy & paste of the load game dialogue.

Set autosave to a relatively low amount of turns, and that should at least help with your problem.

Same thing happened to me last night. Thing is, I accidentally double clicked the wrong game anyway, so either way I would have lost something good. Is there something wrong with adding a confirmation box?

I'll try and run this past Cari when she gets in.

Thanks for the replies,

I'll look at my autosave options, that should help.

i think there needs to be a warning when you double click asking if you wan tot load or save.. or a option to save/load (user changable)

Here's what I do, always do the first save by using Ctrl-S. Then use the Save/Load panel only for loading or doing a backup save.

Hope that helps.

I might be wrong, but that setting might be buried somewhere in the UI file, which means you could actually change it yourself. If not, a good workaround is to use quicksave instead of save. There's no ambiguity, and it's faster.
