Problem Loading Game.

When I try to load the game, it just sits there with a little black box.
Im running a powerful machine...any idea why the game won't load?

Is this your first time running the game?

They should already by new enough, but you should update your video drivers form nvidia.com just to eliminate that as an issue.

Are you connected to a docking station?  If so, make sure that any software or drivers for your docking station are also up to date.  You may need to disconnect it from the docking station if the problem continues.

Also, try turning your refresh rate on your screen up to 60, if you are able to change that.

Other than that, I'm really not sure what the problem could be. It only gives the error message 'No compatible devices found' if it can't find any compatible display modes in either fullscreen or windowed mode.  Even if there aren't newer drivers for your card, you may want to try re-installing them anyway.

I did re-install the drivers...and nothing.

Refresh rate is at 50

I'm not even getting any error messages...

CariElf suggested changing the refresh rate to 60, because 50 may be too low.

That would be very strange, considering the rest of the system.

It could be due to the monitor driver that Window's is using (a standard PnP monitor driver, as opposed to a driver for the particular monitor).

If there is a cd that came with the monitor you should try installing the monitor driver that should be on it. If it is a laptop, the same thing applies.

50Hz refresh is very low by today's standards.

Another thing you could try is opening the Prefs.ini file (located in My Documents\My Games\GalCiv2) and set the game resolution to your desktop resolution of 1280x800.

Okay, I re-installed the drivers for the display (im on a laptop)
Also changed the settings in the prefs.ini

Same thing still happends

Try (after downloading the newest drivers from Nvidia) uninstalling the video driver from Add/Remove Programs, reboot, and install the latest drivers from Nvidia. Yours are a bit old (not that old, I know, but there could be something funny happening with the drivers. As long as you are reinstalling, you may as well have the latest drivers).

If it still does not work after that, post your latest debug.err.

Did you try running dxdiag to make sure that everything is ok with DirectX?
