Dumb noob question about "Selected Items" colors...

I found a skin I really like, but I dislike the "light gray on slightly lighter gray" scheme the designer chose for "Selected Items."

OK, so I go into Display->Appearance->Advanced->Other Advanced Controls, and change the "Selected Items" setting to something that works for me.  Everything's fine ... for about an hour ... then the colors go back to the default loaded by the skin - and I can't figure out what triggers the change-back.

How do I make my color settings *stick*?

open the skin in Skin Studio and change it there

I was hoping there'd be an answer short of, "Buy a $50 application and become a skin designer," but if that's the only way, I can always find a new skin.

There's a free version of SkinStudio, and even the 2 that aren't free, don't cost $50.

You don't have to become a skin designer to change a simple color setting either.
Select Colors > Menus > Menu - Hightlighted Background > change the color > save and apply.

Browse to the folder where you extracted the skin, usualy its "C:\Program Files\Stardock\Object Desktop\WindowBlinds" open the folder named after the skin, find the .UIS file named after ur skin/sub-style, open it in notepad........
......Search for Hilight, its under [Colors] section, change the value in RGB... to ease it up choose rgb value using paintbrush...... save and re-apply the visual style...

P.S.. always take a backup of the file you are editing, you can edit other colors, aspects of the skin there...
