We had a few rain showers early Sunday morning across the valley. Just enough to make the roads wet.

This morning (October 3rd), it was 29 degrees....the first freeze of the year. It was a perfectly clear night and morning with a LOT of stars visible. I decided to push my old digital camera as far as it could go. This is Orion, at 5:30am.

What is perfectly clear is that an Olympus 2040 camera isn't up to the task of astrophotography the way I want to do it. If you look close you can see some hot pixels and what this picture doesn't show is the gazillion other stars that I can see along with Orion. This shot is amazing given the fact that its a 2.1 megapixel camera designed for the average Joe taking vacation pics. I've opened it up as far as it can go...f1.8 and a 16 second exposure. This is going to be problematic for me when trying to get some pictures of the northern lights. Maybe Santa will bring me the Canon 30D I've been drooling over for Christmas...sigh.
