You see, I uninstalled and recently reinstalled the game, and for whatver reason the latest version, according to the debug file, set me up with a 60 mhz refresh rate, which will not work on my machine. So, if I could just set it to 75 everything would be hunky dory. But there's no .cg file. Anyone?

Actually it isn't the game that's doing this, it's DirectX. You need to go to your start menu, click run and enter "dxdiag". This brings up the DirectX Diagnostic tool. Under the More Help tab at the bottom of the list is an Override button, click this. This brings up the Override DirectDraw Refresh Rate box. In this box there are two buttons, Default (this will be selected) and Override Value. You need to click Override Value and enter the refresh rate (in Hz) that you want. You need to be a bit careful with the rate you select since DirectX will force this refresh rate regardless of the current resolution (1024x768, 1152x864, 1280x1024, etc). Therefore the rate you select needs to be supported by your monitor at all the resolutions you could possibly be in when DirectX is used. Remember GCII may very well not be the only program you will ever have that needs DirectX so consider resoultions used by other programs you have.

You can usually see what refresh rates are supported by your monitor by right clicking in the screen area and selecting Properties to bring up the Display Properties window. Under the Settings tab click the Advanced button. This brings up a window thats generally unique to your video adapter, but there should be a monitor tab somewhere in the window. Under the monitor tab there's a box that says Hide modes that this monitor cannot display, make sure there's a check in this box. Then there's a pulldown menu that shows the currently selected refresh rate. If you select the pulldown menu button you can see all of the refresh rates that the monitor supports for the currently selected resolution. If you exit the video adapter window you're back to the Display properties window. From there you can change the resolution and repeat the process to see what refresh rates are supported by the new resolution. You should be able to find a refresh rate that's supported by all the commonly useful resolutions.

Good Luck
