The wait is finally over

http://www.objectbar.net/

At long last, ObjectBar 2.0 is available now on Stardock.com . This upgrade is free to existing customers.

ObjectBar is a program that can replace or extend the Windows taskbar. It provides the functionality of the Start bar while adding a vast array of new features and benefits. Because it is so flexible and skinnable, it can be made to look like any sort of toolbar, menu, dock, etc. found on any OS, or it can be used to create something entirely new, giving you a level of personalization on the Windows desktop interface.

This new version comes with several different looks to choose from, and each one can be personalized based on your needs.

This versatile and useful program is only $19.95, or can be purchased as part of the Object Desktop Suite of desktop customization programs for only $49.95.

can you fade this sidebar like the windows vista sidebar ?

can it be resized ?

I am running it on Vista and I have replaced the god awful Windows Sidebar with Vista Bar and how much better is it? Ummm.....well, Windows Sidebar is Accrington Stanley (who? exactly!) and Vista is Brazil. Or to our american cousins, WS is George Bush and Vista Bar is Abraham Lincoln! Does it run on Windows 2000? It says in runs on 2000 and XP but i tried it before with the pre-release versions and it said it needed XP. I will try it today and work. NOTE TO STARDOCK : Well worth the wait!

UPDATE: It would appear that I got a little carried away with this on Vista. My DX widgets dont seem to work. THey just dont show at all. The DX widget tht came with Vista Bar works absolutely fine, but any other one does not  I'm hoping its because I'm running Vista and not XP and that Stardock are looking into this phenomenon as we speak. DX does work fine on Vista though

WOW! In less than a year (I purchased OD in 12/05) has Object Desktop ever grown and improved. Thanks everyone, Stardcock, WinCustomize all the WizOps, SysOps and HipOps; the developers, support people, hand holders, artists and supporters - its just keeps getting better. Screen shot to follow!

still dont under stand dickie's analogy. You were saying it's terrible compared to its forefathers?

A very impressive release! This is decidedly not your pappy's ObjectBar.

Tinkering with all of the new features and stuff gives me plenty to do in the silent moments between my five-day-old's bouts of crying and hunger!

OB2 Rocks! I didn't even have to use the included styles and was able to make my own because I want to have a top-bar, right-sidebar in addition to my normal taskbar and left side Object Dock Quick Launch. My one issue is that I don't know how to change the size of DX widgets to fit nicely in the sidebar.

Object Desktop has never been more worth the money.

It was always well worth the money, but.. damn. How are you guys not going bankrupt?

Is there something that ObjectBar 2.0 can't do?!

Wonderful! I've been waiting for this for ages!

I've noticed that there are 3 'MyShadows' applications running though. Is this normal? Should there be only 1?
Sventekoz: Looks like you found a tiny glitch The shadows show up in the task manager as 'running applications' - I can assure you there're not applications just single windows so really its 0 of them running Windows just puts anything thats visible and has a window title in that list. Taken care of

I meant George Bush is hopeless and Lincoln was outstanding

I have tried the MacOS theme and discoverd a problem with the menu replacement: If there is a windw, containing a path, active and I select "File:New" from the objectbar, the menu with the new filetypes is empty. Maybe its because my WindowsXP is non-english.

Would love to use this, but it crashes constantly with no error.

No problems here, so far...even on dual monitors(a SD weakness)!
Seems to be alot more "stable" than previous versions...have ALWAYS had the problem of ObjectBar just "forgetting" that it was running, and simply quit responding after a while(w/o any other adverse effects).

Well done team!

SDC still refuses to install OB on a Win2K rig.

I've lost my patience with SD over this. For a year we've been told right in the SDC description of OB that it is "for Windows 2000 & XP". If it "should" work, change the SDC installer so we can try it.

This kind of carelessness & inattention to a problem that has been pointed out repeatedly for the last 6 months borders on deliberate & really frosts me. Sorry, but that's the way I see it. It may influence my ODN renewal decision come January.

That doesn't make sense. All SDC does is copy the files. What exactly happens?

tried adding the live weather widget .. and the vista sidebar covered my screen .. had to select undock to get it to resize .. couldn't see the widget anywhere either

Frogboy -

When you highlight OB in SDC & click on "Update", you get a message box saying OB requires XP or higher and it quits right there after you click OK, which is the only option.

And sorry for the tone... I'm just frustrated after such a long wait.

So, I downloaded this because of the "Minimal" theme I saw in the video. If it were available, I would renew my now-lapsed OD subscription (which I've been thinking about anyway). BUT, there is no such theme available in the trial package--and I have no time to design my own. Is it out there somewhere?

I'm running a pretty nice system. It handles V Ult. nicely.
But this program has all kinds of problems.
Just a few quick observations....
1. The alignment on the built in drop down does nothing. (At least not for me)
2. It max's out my CPU if I try too many skins. (Also see #6)
3. Crashed on me once.
4. The CPU and Memory plug-ins are nothing more than links to open task manager?
5. I was unable to change the auto-hide delay. I used both extremes and it made no difference.
6. After the CPU max'd with OB, I closed it and it still ran @ 50-54% idle. Showed as Explorer.exe in task manager. I had only my desktop showing with the usuals running. Restarted, problem resolved. Played with OB, happened again. (Maybe because I used a start menu graphic from my current WB for the ddm skin? I don't know...it was all I could think of)
7. The ToDo list widget is really buggy if you move it, or the main menu, it will not re-align.

I uninstalled the program, and re-installed. Same results.
Finally uninstalled after about 2 hours. Too many head-aches. Nothing seemed to work quite right.

My specs

AMD Athlon 64 3700+ - 2.20 GHz - 1 MB L2
Windows XP Home (32 bit) running Completely up to date
1.12 GB Memory (after video)
Nvidia 6100 onboard graphics - (Just updated the drivers recently)
Most of the latest Stardock products via Object Desktop (No Beta's)
I can/have run Vista Ultimate with no problems at all.

I really like the concept behind this program, but the bugs concern me.
It strikes me as a beta type of release. I'm not trying to be hyper-critical however.
I have Camtasia and I can capture images if you would like to see what I'm talking about.

O.k., everyone......pounce.

Right wing conspiracy?

I'll test your issues from here and report back. At least we can start setting a baseline.
