MOO3 to end up boosting GalCiv sales? :)

Hey everyone, I'm completely new here....I just found out about this game on Monday. Want to know how?

Yep, you guessed it...I bought MOO3, played it for about 6 days, realized I wasn't having any *fun* playing it, continued to read on the IG forums about the many people not having fun with it, and finally stumbled across a thread along the lines of "I'll be waiting for Galactic Civilizations." Curious, I read the thread and then followed a link to this site. I continued reading, here, learning about the game and now that I've returned MOO3 (exchanging it for Simcity 4, actually), I'm eagerly awaiting GalCiv. It really does look like it will have the "soul" that was taken out of MOO3 (as other people have said in various places). I especially love the whole Good/Evil angle and the choice you get to make in the game to influence that. That is such a GREAT idea! :)

Anyway, I mainly wanted to say hi and to let you know that you've just gotten another sale do to the whole MOO3 debacle. And to also note that I think MOO3's disappointing debut will send a lot of sales your way. I've seen posts on various forums suggesting people should check out GalCiv if they're refugees from what MOO3 turned out to be. The biggest one I just noticed was a plug on www.gonegold.com (which I think quite a lot of people read). As the guy who tells about "Deals of the Week" is mentioning a sale price on MOO3, he goes on to say that after reading so many impressions of MOO3, he's decided to wait and pick up GalCiv instead....and he gives a link here, of course.

So, as it turns out, you guys may end up doing quite well with this game thanks to MOO3. ;)

Be seeing you all around.

Welcome to the game Ardrikk!

I suggest you read the info in the encyclopedia section. It will give you a good idea of what galciv is about. There a lot of people here willing to help out the new memebers so ask away, and when you get the game have a lot of fun.

catch you around the forum

Hey midnight_louie you are slipping. You forgot to mention my fan site.

http://webpages.charter.net/trevorpowdrell

The site is a list of the research, projects and star base modules you can build. All parsed form the actual game files.

You can also find the link under fan sites in the encyclopedia.

Welcome aboard Ardrikk.

It is too bad one game has to suffer and another gains from it, but I guess that really is life.

I am very happy GalCiv looks like it will do very well, and that imo it will have some of the BEST Support that any game has seen in a long, long time thanks to Frogboy and Company.

Look for you in the Metaverse! :)

The one game didn't have to suffer... they messed it up.

I must say, I don't think beta testers realize how much help they provided in terms of encouragement. I can say, on a personal note, that when I'd feel down for some reason that pages like Javascout's were great motivation.

Yes, it is apparrent the MOO3 forum will signigicantly boost GalCiv sales. I too came here from there.

And me as well :(

Not bashing Moo3 either, I'm really, really praying they fix up the AI. I quite like the game, but it's just not fun right now. Too many weaknesses. Once they patch it (if they patch it), I'll go back and try again.

GalCiv on the other hand, sounds like the PERFECT single player game to let the hours drift by on a rainy day. And since Moo3 just rained on me, the 25th can't get here soon enough ;)

in a tbs game its about the ai and i've put weeks of my life into playing this game and the ai continues to amaze me even in beta.

Jay, I hope you're right but, in fairness, we have heard that line before.

If the player reviews are consistent with the beta test reviews, I'll buy GC about a week after it comes out.

Add me to the list. I have a long history with the MOO series, so was pegged to buy the game the day it was released. Despite all of MOO3's problems, I decided to play it for an entire week to give it a fair shot and it's painful for me to say this, but I have to cut my losses . The one bright spot is I can apply the $50 from returning MOO3 towards GalCiv. I have read over the Encyclopedia, and am really looking forward to this game.

i don't think you'll be dissapointed. The a.i. had to be dumbed down from the bright to fool settings. I'm getting my butt kicked right now and they are all on bright settings. I hope you enjoy the game as musch as i do

I also heard of GalCiv from the MOO3 forum. Ironicly there was an ad for GalCiv in my MOO3 box. :) I have been a LONG time MOO fan and preorderd MOO3 last year, counting the time till it came out. While it has good things, it also has bad things. Unfortunantly playing it more I have been getting less happy with it instead of more. (:( I'm even going to try and get my old MOO2 to work. :p Naturally I am unsure about this one after my recent experiance, but it sounds like a lot of true work has been put into this game and it looks very good from here. From what I read in the other threads it is a lot like Civilization (and I LOVE Civ! :D )

MOO3 was awaited worldwide by a hugh crowd of 4x game lovers. They announced a "worldwide" release on February 26, but oddly enough this didn't include the UK, this will be March 7, and therefore we in The Netherlands also have to wait untill then because the UK version will be released overhere. Well, while waiting alot of people visited the official MOO3 site and found the forums and started to look at that, and after the release found there were countless complaints (which don't put me off, btw, I have to experience things myself before I draw a conclusion) and INDEED some guys referred to Galciv. So, apparently like alot of others, I found my way here as well through the MOO3 forums, AND was lucky enough after buying Drengin to ve able to DL a beta version before this possibility was completely closed. Just for getting a good impression of the game the beta is fine. But I understand Brad's decision to close the DL of the beta to avoid tonnes of posts (read: complaints) based upon playing the beta whilst the Gold Version is soo much better. Untill the 26th however I will continue to play the beta, to get some experience in general play. And Brad: thanks for letting us view from time to time in the "developers kitchen", your articles are very much appreciated and kills time a bit whilst waiting for the release date. ;)

Hehe... I think there must be half the MOO3 forum here.

I think QS made the mistake of changing the wrong things - long-time fans were alienated because a feature they liked was taken out, and newcomers (like me) still weren't helped by the game's UI.

AI is one of the most talked about problems, but I hit upon many many many examples of bad UI design. And also just bad game model (especially in the military functions).

Ironically, I found out about this game from a card in the MOO3 box.

I agree that the sales of GalCiv will be boosted by the low opinion of MOO3. I almost didn't consider MOO3, since it's 2D but it looks quite fun.

We will, as they, see.

I am also interested in GalCiv. However I made a big mistake buying MOO3.

I would really like to try out a GalCiv demo before I buy it. Is that at all possible?
A demo will be available in April. After the retail release.

Great, demos speak volumes.
MOO3 was high on my list, but after gamespot video review of it, I will wait for an extensive patch that may never happen. A couple of guys on their development team was quoted by gamespy at the Game Developers Conference as saying the reason the AI was so bad was that the game went through three ownerships and never had a real mastermind at the helm. I was very relieved to find out about GalCiv. And the extensive info well available here. As well as at gamerankings.com , gamespot.com , gamespy. Frogboys well exicuted interviews on gamespy was what drew me in. Then the Stategy First involvement cemented my interest. I was playing their Disciples 2 till 3 in the morning the other morn.

I'm actually enjoying MoO3 quite a bit, but I must say that it has it's shortcomings. I find the game "fun," but sometimes I feel like the game is out of my control, and then I stop having fun with it for a bit.

Especially when it comes to things like spies tormenting my people, the research/tech. tree (does the player have any input here!?) and so on.

I hope GalCiv does a better job and hooks me even harder.

Just read that at Poly MOO3 section :

"STEEP DECLINE ON AVAULT `TOP 10`
(10 March 2003, 19:17 | MoO3) Master of Orion III has seen its steepest decline on The Adrenaline Vault`s "Top 10 Most Searched After Products" listing in recent memory during the week of March 2-8, 2003. The announcement was made today by AVault`s Brian Clair. Now in fourth position, it MoO3 was in first place last and second place two weeks ago.

Fellow Infogrames title Unreal II jumped to third from second position that it held the half-month preceeding, while Freelancer by Microsoft Game Studios lept into top spot. Stardock Systems` Galactic Civilizations, another computer strategy game set in outer-space which placed one spot behind MoO3 one-and-a-half months ago, took the level vacated by Unreal II. Three weeks ago, it was in eighth position.

MoO3 was simultaneously released in twenty countries on February 25th [related story], approximately one month and one day before GalCiv. - DanQ "

Looks like all MOO3 expectations shifted to GalCiv ! :)

MoO3:
I just couldn't get rid of the feeling that the computer is playing the game without me... and I like to be involved in my computer games. ;)

If I just want something to watch I buy a DVD. LOL

So I sold MoO3 today over ebay and preorderd GalCiv, as it seems to be the game I hoped MoO3 would be.
