Crashing on saving new ships

Help! I'm not technologically literate. I can tell you this: I create a new ship, name it, hit save - and nothing happens. So, I hit done and get the message that all changes will be lost. Who cares, since it's not saving anyway? Hit OK. Game crashes.

Since the ship design tool is one of the best features of this game, I'm upset. Love the game after only one day of playing - but without this feature it's worthless to me because I don't like the AI deciding what I should have on my ships.

My video card (a Radeon ATI 3500/5500) has the latest drivers. I read in known bugs to use the debug.err, but I don't know how. It IS possible that my page file is too small, but I don't know how to enlarge it.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Please go to C:\Program Files\Stardock\Totalgaming\GalCiv2 (or wherever you installed the game at), open the debug.err file you find there in notepad, and copy/paste the contents into a post here. This will give us some technical information that can help troubleshoot your problem.

Ahh, I see how that works now.

Here's the debug info. Thanks in advance! This game is great if I can get it to work properly!

P.S.: Downloading v1.2 is not much of an option for me unless necessary. I'm on rural dial-up and the 35.5mb download is at least 8 hours of straight downloading. I often can't keep a connection that long (I'm VERY rural and still on antique copper phone lines).

Your system looks to be fine, but the running v1.0 is likely a problem.

If the download is an issue, you can try using Stardock Central, which should give a smaller download size (and IIRC it supports resume as well). Or if you've got a USB drive or know someone with a better connection, you can download it elsewhere. In any case, that is the most likely solution.

Download this program, it will let you pause and resume if your connection fails:

Flashget 1.72(for pausing and resuming later)">Link

and then download this GalCiv2 1.2 Patch with Flashget, if your connection fails, just reconect later, and resume the download:

GalCiv 2 1.2 Patch from gamespot.com"

Post if you got more problems getting this patch, and remmember that 1.3 comes on thursday, so youll need to get that 1 when it comes out.

Enjoy
