Problems with graphics again/different

Hello guys,

I just found sth about GalCiv2 and never heard of it before, but it sounds quite interesting and the pics I saw are prettz cool. Especially the guys of you who are modding, my respect. I liked Star Trek / Birth of the Federation and Star Wars Rebellion though they werent too good. The fact that I could have both in one game because of your work really attracts me. Keep up work you do fantastic jobs!
So I downloaded the demo whether its so cool like many of you say and it looks or not. Theres the fact. I have a graphic fault similar to what some people in the past posted here and read everything I found, but it still doesnt work:
Game (demo) is working well, but I cannot see any textures on ships. The planets are fine, the ships have only 2 colors, no textures. I set all up in my win xp languages profile to english (us) since I have a european system but doesnt help. I got a geforce2mx, what is clearly not the newes card, but on the galciv2 site it says nothing about that this card would be too low and I fit all recoms, I also downloaded/installed the newest nvidia drivers.
Could please someone help? I really like to play this game, but I wont buy it when not even the demo works and shows textures correctly...

I dont know much about games except like playing them, so please treat me like an idiot

Sorry, I was wrong in words, its not recom its requirement. And these are (as the galciv2 site says):

"Minimum Requirements
Windows 98/ME/2000/XP.
Pentium III 800Mhz or equivalent processor.
256MB RAM, 32MB DirectX 9.0c compatible video card.

Recommended Requirements
Windows XP or later.
Pentium 4 1.8 GHz or equivalent processor.
512MB RAM, 128MB DirectX 9.0c compatible video card.

Please note your display must support a minimum resolution
of 1024x768 and should be running in 32-bit color mode"

I got:
Windows XP
Pentium III 1600Mhz
768MB RAM, 64MB DirectX 9.0c

so it should do it. Dont tell me my card is too old never makeing trouble (even at swg) but on a round based strategy game...
Your card is too old. It is not a DX9 compliant card.
Liar. So why can I play Sims2 what needs DX9? And why does everything on my system say that 9.0c is working perfectly fine? As I said, even Star Wars Galaxies, a MMORPG is working quite well. It must be a problem with the game files or some config.
Why would I lie?

DirectX 9 can be installed but that does not mean the card is a DX9 card. The two have nothing to do with each other. The Geforce 2 series do not support it. Period. That is why you do not have the textures. They support up to DX7 only.

And the MX cards were the low end of the series as it is. They are the economy version, and lacked many of the features found on the regular Geforce 2 cards.

Learn something before you call someone a liar. You simply display your ignorance for all to see.

I have same problem. All work fine except graphic of ships. I have graphic card ATI Radeon X1600 and installed DX9c. So i will claim the game, because its horrible to play game with this bug.

willyman:
Moosetek is correct. You can install DirectX9 on your system but your card does not support the needed features *in hardware* which is something software cannot change. You can see a full list of all GeForce cards at wikipedia. The game needs one listed as having DirectX9 support there to use all of the graphic features, and at least DirectX8 support to run without missing textures. Cards listed as DirectX7 there will have missing textures and possibly other issues that cannot be solved short of a new video card.

zephyN:
Are the textures missing, or are the ships shown as icons, or some other problem? Locate the file debug.err in C:\Program Files\Stardock\Totalgaming\GalCiv2 and post its entire contents here, so we can help troubleshoot your problem.
wow its not a bug @ zephy @ willyman

your video cards are ancient. The drivers are dated, there not dx9 compliant and they dont have enough processing power.

Yea your right SIMS is a good test of a video card.

ACtualy your entire system is Ancient.
When you start it do you have to wind it up? Is it gas powered?

Just because you installed dx9 doesnt mean your card is dx9 compliant.
Sims isnt a graphics entensive game.
And i dont believe you about running any MMO on that system. Well maybe it runs but getting 1-5fps isnt running in my book its a slide show.

and did you miss the "256MB RAM, 32MB DirectX 9.0c compatible video card." its not an or its an and. your card has something lke 64mb ram.

Do you think ? Oblivion is on my computer fully functional in full detail in resolution 1280x1024.I don´t think , thats problem of hardware , that i have problem with ship graphic.

So, there is my debug.err file , because i haven´t any idea what to make with it.

And the ship looks like icons without details. Shape is correct , but the icons have only 1 or two colour , completly without graphic surface . Surface of ships is coated only by one colour.
zephyN: if the ships appear as icons, it's no bug--you're just stuck in strategic view (a feature to allow you to easily see the whole map at once without killing your video card). If the ships don't change back to 3d models when you zoom in, all you need to do is adjust the slider in the options:

You probably set it all the way to 0 without knowing what it did (the default is 25 IIRC). It determines which zoom level the display toggles at, so setting it to a level you are happy with. 0 makes it always strategic view, 100 makes it never strategic view.

Sorry i dont said it correct. It looks like 3D object, where the textures missing and its covered by one colour and giving flat shaded models without detail.
The problem is evident also i ship design or when you choose type of ships in customizing of race too.

Telling me i dont know nothing when your asking how to post a pic

Goggle photobucket, create an account, host the image there, then put a link in a reply here.

That looks like you are missing texture files. You may need to reinstall the game.
It might work better to download the update file to your hard drive and install it from there. There have been some problems in the past for some users with the automatic update using Stardock Central.
Try setting your regional settings in control panel to US English. If that doesn't do it, you may also try the latest beta of the 1.3 patch via SDC.
