Clouds don't work after upgrading to the 1.3 beta 3...

the Clouds on the planets are not working in the 1.3 beta 3, so I change it to 1.2 again amd now all my clouds are gone (mean they are not working) it was a waste to upgrade... the game were perfect as he is... in version 1.2... any comments?

Do you still have your debug.err file from when you tried 1.3b3?
If so, please post it here.

To fix the clouds for your copy of 1.2, please try reinstalling. That should replace any missing files if your cloud textures are missing or corrupted.

If you still run into trouble, please let us know.

no, I played since... the clouds are in the files, all from cloud 1 to cloud 10... they are just not appering...

1.3 included a new version of the file /gfx/fx/planet.fx. If you still have this version and are using 1.2, you may not be able to see the clouds on the planets.

Please delete your planet.fx file and reinstall. That should make sure you get the correct version of the file.

I fixed the clouds not working in 1.3 beta 3. The fix will be included in our next update.

where is planet.fx file placed? and when the update will come?

Whats all the talk about clouds and planet lights etc? I haven't seen any, ever! Hopefully its not a really obvious game option that I missed.

what...? are you nuts? clouds and lights are very important! look at what that I did to earth:

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

yes, it's new clouds, they are very important! and the map is new either!
look how great this is!
That really doesn't help (although it looks nice), seeing as I dont know how when where or why. To get clouds and lights do you need to do something other than just turn on an option?
I think you should turn on the anti ailising (or whatever it called, I never looked into it..)

I set it on 6, so you better try it!
I have all settings completely maxed out everywhere. That includes Anti-Aliasing to 6X and Anisotropic Filtering to 16X. There are NO city lights and possibly a few clouds.

I've never seen a single city light.
that's a shame... try to reinstall the game or "repair" it from the "remove and add" progrems window
Reply #14 Top
The city light started working in 1.3 beta and before that I could not ever see them. I havent seen any clouds in 1.3 betas either.

Well, I noticed I do have clouds, but they seem to be corrupted edges of clouds or something. I'm not entirely sure, there's something there. For the record, here is my debug file copy pasted:

I know the sound card drivers are "old", but I was never able to find a reliable source to get new ones. Also, there are lots of "advanced" settings in the graphics card options, but I'm not sure what may or may not help.

The planet.fx file is located in
C:/program files/stardock/totalgaming/galciv2/gfx/fx

There was a bug in 1.3 betas that caused the clouds to not display properly. That has been fixed for the final 1.3 version which is set for next Thursday. City lights did not work properly in versions prior to 1.3. Also, your hardware must support pixel shader version 2.0 for the lights to display.

I have pixel shader 3 support I think. So I don't have a clue why I have never seen these lights. I saw the option to disable them, it's not ticked. This is annoying!

angryandroid,

Please check your ambient light setting. Turning it down will make the dark side of planets darker, and it will be easier to see the city lights. They also fade out as you zoom out, so you need to zoom in a bit to see them.

The number of lights is based on population as well, so you need at least 1 billion citizens on a planet before lights will appear.
is this line means that I can choose earth's lights and clouds, as especially for him? like I don't get class-27 lights on earth?
/------------------------------------
texture CityLightTexture : Diffuse
<
string ResourceName = "earth.png";
>;

sampler CityLightSampler = sampler_state
{
texture =

if it does so let me know how can I change it so I will finally get Earth's lights ON Earth
Reply #20 Top
That didn't work either, turned from 25 down to 0. I zoomed right in, on the dark side. And there were just those little bits of clouds flying around. Thats on the starting planet of 5 billion.
Master U,
The clouds and light files specified in the .fx file are only used if the .fx file is loaded into an .fx editing program like Microsoft Effect Edit or RenderMonkey.

The clouds and lights are chosen by the game when you play it. Cloud textures are randomly chosen based on planet class and lights are procedurally created based on the terrain of the planet and the population.

angryandroid,
Can you post a screenshot of what you see, please?
so I can't make a spesific cloud to a plat, and the same with lights... can it be made an option in the next 1.4 beta?
Hmm weird, won't let me edit my post, "access denied".

Well, here are some pictures for your viewing pleasure, or not as the case may be.

Obviously, a normal looking planet. Is this right?

The view from the general map. The dark side of my home planet as the game starts. Notice the irregular cloud type shapes? Bizzar.

It looks extremely low resolution and not even close to some peoples planets. So no lights, no clouds, low resolution (games running at 1280x1024). Is there anything else I can post?
you don't have clouds! do you want to try my cloud maps pack? it's high tesolution clouds, as you already saw, it's amazig..
Hmm, another weird error, this time posting. "Sorry this post has been removed".

Anyway. Master U, do you need a cloud map pack period to see clouds or should I have them anyway? And yes, I'd love to have a chance to run with those nice high-res clouds. Thanks.

What about lights? I want my lights!
