I Hate alliances

Is Invading a planet the only way destroy an alliance?
If so then it sucks.

No, you may also refuse to come to their aid. I do not know if this ALWAYS cancels the alliance, but it will most of the time.

Even easier. Just go in your diplomacy screen, under the info tab of the race you are allied with (I think it's the right tab, if not then just search all tabs in diplomacy screen) and you will see under the picture of the ally a check box with break alliance next to it. Check the box and voila, no more alliance.
